history: Serena, a mare like so many others in her homeland on the wild, dusty plateau, and yet special enough to catch the eye of the stallion she wanted; a ruggedly beautiful, tough-as-nails type of mare, with a low tolerance for nonsense and yet a heart of gold if you can win it over.
Growing up as a foal, she often admired the young colt who lived in the neighboring herd. As she got older, she watched him grow stronger, and though he was a bit of an outcast, she secretly longed for him. She was elated when he challenged her father, and won her. The following year, they were happy and overwhelmed, awaiting their first foal. Good times ended abruptly when tragedy struck, and they were separated. Her full story? It's not for everyone to know. For the sake of her son, who doesn't know his father, and for herself, who wants to know what happened to him, she set off on a long and dangerous journey. Having no clue where to look, she went in the first direction that caught her fancy. Her son is traveling with her, but plans on returning to their rescuers once he meets his father. If he ever does. Many places have they seen; what will they see at Sunshine River?
----------------------
Many things they certainly saw. Serena and Kaino, for that was her son's name, traveled across much of the lands, before finally meeting one who had heard of Serena's love. This kind stranger led them to a sprawling, wild-grown apple orchard, where she ran into Kahuna, along with his new little herd. He was startled and thoroughly overwhelmed by her presence; though at first she believed he had abandoned her in favor of new mares, the reunited pair spoke a long time, and she learned the truth: that she had appeared to perish in the plague, and he had run away from the plateau, distraught. Eventually, as his brief madness faded away and the memories became distant, he sought comfort in establishing a new herd, one which, upon hearing who Serena was, welcomed her with open arms. Kaino stayed long enough to meet his father, before returning to a special someone far away- a human boy, the son of the men who had saved Serena from certain death. Serena has taken her place at Kahuna's side again, though joined by several other mares now, whom she considers her dearest friends.
