Swinging On A Star
The first light of day was lifting itself easily over the land; casting morning shadows in all of the dark and dingy crannies. The Mare stood at the cliff edge; no fear showed in her eyes. her pitch hoofs inches from the crumbling surface.

Lifting the dished face to the air; she allowed the warm air lift her flowing, pitch mane; making it tickle her russet hide. Flicking her muscle from the tickling she tossed her head impatiently. Her dark; large orbs looked over the land, she knew she was not the leader of this whole land, but she did have her own herd; though not one that she had any control over. This would not do.

Letting a loud snort escape her nostrils; as the sun hit her skin and then her eyes; blinding her for a moment. Lifting a hoof high; she flexed her neck muscles and dipped her head from the light covering her eyes with pitch mane. Stamping her hoof impatiently; she cast a stone down the cliff edge. watching it roll with little interest; casting its destruction as it went. Making stones roll further with it. until the original stone slid down a smooth rock and away from the cliff; makin it land in the middle of the land; with a loud thud which echoed loudly around the empty area.

The dark palomino mare snuck up behind the bay, she knew who she was and just stood. Silence. She would not say a thing but let the wind carry her every breath. Minutes passed which felt like hours. She stood behind the mare that took over her herd. She would stand silent till she was seen, not flinching. Her long flowing blonde locks traveled with the breeze as did her tail, her forelock joining her mane. It danced like a flame gaining height with the oxygen. She stood still.

"Do you know who I am Swinging On A Star ? I know who you are." she said just barely above a whisper. Her ocean blue eyes shooting laser rays into the back of her opponent, well if she could two holes would be in the back of her head by now. Yes, Ice Diamond was back and frankly disappointed with whom Rosemont had choosen to be her successor. In shifting her weight she knocked a few rocks over to the mare, she was not hearing things, rather Diamond was playing mind games.

Her TB structure was highly clear in her blood, more so than the mustang but that too could be seen in the way she handled the terrain... nothing bothered her. At that moment she felt at peace with all that was around her..... apart from Star being the NEW lead mare. She was edging toward a fight and would not let anything stop her !! No tree moved in the breeze. No rabbit or animal stirred from the bushes. No sun shone hard down upon her. Everything seemed to stop doing its job. Clouds gathered in the skies ahead and she knew that it would soon bring thunder, lightning and heavy rain but not even that bothered her. She would have her fight, she would fight for her crown, she would fight for her family, she would fight to make it all right !!!!

The mare stood tall and kept her eyes fixed on the land below her. She had heard the mare coming; the silence of the land had allowed her to pick up the footfalls of the mare. She cocked her dished head to one side slightly waiting for the inevitable slice of the mares voice.

"You surely underestimate me; I do indeed know who you are, Diamond" she said shortening the mares name easily. She flicked one ear to wards the mare; but yet did not look at her. She stood at her full height; but knew that she was still no match for the tall mare. But her nimbleness and experience in fighting would surely stand her in good steed if the mare did make a move. Being an full blooded Arabian; she knew how to handle herself even on the deadly cliff sides. She flicked her tail lazily from side to side, not concerned about the mare in the slightest.

She knew that if the mare made a move now; she would be stupid as all Star had to do was step to one side and the mare would be send thundering precariously down the cliff edge.

"So you have returned; even after abandoning your herd, your foal even. That is very inconsiderate of you. the herd was your responsibility and no one else's; you even hold a higher hierarchy that Rosemont - yet you still abandoned them." he said finally, falling silent and watching a bird dance on the wind.

When Star announced her name it was a shock to the system. Her strong looking maw jumped up with suprise but lowered once more to normality, still very highly carried. Diamond was angered at her further words after yet more silence. She made the birds stir from the tree with a piercing scream to the skies in a full rear. "I did not abandon them. You know nothing of what happened in the past. Light was but a yearling when she left my side." she said in short whispers making the bird she was so attentivly watching stop dancing and listen to her carried whispers.

Oh Diamond would not rush forward, no, she was smarter than that. She could force the mare off without a full galloping run. Yeah sure she was an Arabian, big deal, she had seen many an experianced horse, no matter the breed, fall from mountanious cliff faces such as the ones they were on. Even Arabians. It made no difference what breed you were. No difference if you had lived on mountains since birth. You could still fall, but c.ockyness that this mare possesed would tempt fate, causing her to fall to her death.

After her long thought she reared once again but bucked in the air. Hoping that she would hit anything in her path... even better her foe. If she was to hit it would make Star stumble in which she could hit again causing both pain and death. She was glade she had foaled, it would have made each little plan harder to carry out, her foal was hiding under her instructions. Oh yes it was Rosemonts child.

The mare snorted and turned to look at the mare for the first time. "Your foal indeed was old enough to leave her mother but that still does not excuse you leaving your herd" she said as she sauntered a little away from the cliff edge; looking at the mare eye to eye.
"You are very hostile are you not?" she said suddenly. "You have met me for a short time and are not being very friendly. "Though i too have not been very friendly. i guess you are hereto claim back your herd?" she asked quietly as she turned fully to look at the mare, her rump facing the cliff now.

The palomino formally known as Diamon for short of Ice Diamond stared at Star the chestnut Arabian ever so fiercly. "Do you believe every short detail in which you are told my dear ... notice how in Rosemont's stories he is not to blame ?? their are many a witness to what happened the day I left, thankfully my daughter is bitter enough -of myself- to never speak of it again." she paused as she studied the mare. Older, perhaps agile, but lets be honest, it wasn't exactly going to be very hard to push Star off the cliff with the mustang blood she had astoudingly present within her blood. She was not here to reclaim her lover Rosemont, no, in fact she did not miss him, but rather the company of others and the knowing that her daughter has a higher chance of surviving in the wild.

"Indeed, I have returned to battle you for the herd" she was tired of being so nice. She wanted to fight. It had never came to a fight before, in fact she was lucky to keep her foal. A piercing sound cracked the deadly silence that lay between the two for some while. It was about to commence and her heart was pmping faster and faster with every drumming beat where her hooves met the mountains rocky side. Indeed she reared and was calling her out in a battle of strength, smarts and stepping ... for up here every step was potentially your last. She would wait and strike at the air and call her bluff if need be. "AFFRAID ?!!!" she screamed with her gaze drumming down at Star.

The mare turned and looked at the mare a moment. "Of course i do not believe everything which slithers from ones mouth. And i have not been told about you apart from your name and you left. But I have met other which have come across you" she paused flicking her ears to wards the other mare without hesitation she moved closer to the mare, almost unbearably close.

"A battle is that what you wish for? More bloodshed in the world. Do you not even wonder if I will just step down gracefully?" She lifted her head up further and looked at the mare with little interest - or so it would seem. "theres is not left for you besides the company of the others and your foal. Seen as you don't love him anymore and well the herds lost its lead status in this area" she said as she slithered away from the mare, grazing her side easily.

Swinging On A Star turned her back on the mare and moved back over to the cliff edge and snorted loudly before leaning her head down and scratching her leg with her head. When the mare reared and shouted at her. Swinging On A Star laughed and looked at the mare comically. "Afraid? Well of course not" she said laughing more.
