Celeris released a deep, relieved sigh as she waded into the watering hole. Only a few days ago, she had been standing at the edge of a little group of equines with Artemus, the blind stallion. But the pressure had gotten to her; she hadn't been able to stand that many horses at one time, not so soon after coming out of exile. Had she really come out of exile, though? The red roan mare had merely stopped at Sunshine River to get a drink of water. Why had she stayed? It was a beautiful country, was it not? Besides Cougar and Cochise and Artemus and the other horses she had chatted with, no others had forced themselves upon her. She hadn't been stolen or forcebred by a stallion and she hadn't been forced to put up with gossiping mares - so far, so good, right? Here she sighed again. Was that right? Really? Even though she had run out on that conversation, even though social interaction seemed overwhelming to her, she couldn't help but feel that she was starting to long for some company. Mare or stallion, though? Did she want a friend or a mate? A shiver ran up her spine at the thought of a mate. What did that indicate? Disgust?
'Too many questions, not nearly enough time,' the mare thought, leaning her crown down to take a deep draught of the water. 'I wish I had someone to guide me. To teach me or tell me what to do.'

Eno Teiuq walked into the unknown area for the first time. He trotted happily, even though he had many scars and wounds, and tossed his head wildly. He longed badly to whinny or neigh. Hekicked his heels and ran around, yet he was silent, not a word nor a whinny nor a neigh. He came to a river, the name of the river unknown to him. He longed to speak and ask other horses what the name of it was. It was so beautiful and the sunshine hit it beautifully. He head a faint flowing of water, but he was so close and it seemed to be moving quickly. He didn't know why he heard only a bit, maybe his hearing was just actiong up at the moment.
He galloped over to the water and lowered his crown to the cool water. He drank slowly and then lifted his head. He saw a mare standing near him. He glanced at her Red Roan pelt. His own pelt was a beautiful bay, but it was tainted, marked with dozens of scars and mulitple deep wounds. One of those wounds was especially deep and went across his neck. It was still bleeding slightly after all this time. He looked at the mare and longed to call to her and have a conversation, his first conversation, but he couldn't so he just looked at her.

Absorbed in her thoughts, Celeris didn't even noticed the bay foal join her at the Watering Hole. At the moment, she was staring into the semi-still water at her rippling reflection. The mare she saw staring back at her had lost the flame of a mustang born wild, and though she couldn't see it, her scarred back was more swayed than many of her wild kin. A fly landed on her side and she lazily flicked her wet tail out of the water at it. Thoughts of handsome and chivalrous stallions danced through her mind for a few moments before she caught herself - she needed not any stallion to protect her. She had managed very well on her own for quite a while now, days upon days of loneliness. Still, some company would be nice.... But then she came back to this question - what company did she want? She was imagining handsome stallions, but did she really want one of her own? Maybe she wanted a mare, someone of her own gender, to keep her company? No stallion could possibly understand the thoughts of mares like another mare could. And what about - wait, was she being watched?
The roan mare shifted her gaze from the reflection below her to the area around her. First, she looked right and then left. Ah, there the culprit was. A foal. My goodness, there were a lot of young horses here. Where was this one's mother, she wondered? Why wasn't he being supervised? All questions and no answers. Would anyone ever be able to give her the answers she needed?

Eno Teiuq continued to watch the mare as she flicked the fly off her pelt. He watched as the mare looked up at him. He turned his head away from her. He walked a bit away from the mare. He couldn't speak and he didn't know how to show what he wanted to say. He wanted to say 'Sorry Miss, I'll be on my way.' He walked over to a tree and layed under it. He nibbled at the grass a bit. He had never eaten grass before. He had seen other horses eating it, so it had to be good, but when he tasted it he spit it back out. He had tasted meat before, but not grass. Being raised by a bear led a horse to experience many new things, such as being attacked by your 'brothers' that have sharp claws and having large scars left on your body. He lifted his back leg to scratch an itch behind his ear. His hoof accidentally hit his wound on his neck and he tried to whinny in pain, but he couldn't. He just remained silent and let a tear of pain run down his cheek.

Apparently the look on Celeris' face had been a mean one. She hadn't really meant to direct any particular feelings toward the little colt - she had just stared at him, absorbed in her own thoughts and problems. She eyed him as he walked away towards a tree and snuggled down beneath it. The little foal tried the grass, but didn't like it. 'Shouldn't he still be nursing by now? Shouldn't his mother be watching him?' she wondered. 'Surely a foal that young and inexperienced could get himself in trouble if he didn't have supervision? What if an angry brute came by?' Of the many scary stories Celeris had heard of stallions, their treatment of foals had to be the worst part. But she had seen stallions up close now, hadn't she? They didn't seem that bad. 'Can those stallions really account for the entire stallion-kind?' That was incredibly doubtful. Just as there were good and bad mares, there must also be good and bad stallions.
The red roan mare ran her eyes over every horse at the Watering Hole, looking for some sign of a frantic mother who was desperate to find her little colt. But she found none. "Hmmmm...." she muttered thoughtfully. "I suppose it's my duty to make sure this young 'un finds his way back to his dam. Durn, why can't a mare get a bit of alone time?" Hadn't she had enough alone time over the past several months, though? So Celeris waded out of the Watering Hole and paced toward the bay colt.

(OOC: Manda, I'm gonna take Celeris from this thread pretty soon - as soon as I can find someone to RP with. Let me know if you ever want to continue it.)
