Intertwined and Somewhat Odd

[Dusty's Girl]

"Hurry up, Orchid!" His voice was deep, taking after his sire. He was a black and white tobiano Gypsy Vanner. Of course he was purebred, something odd in the wild. But his lovely hide was riddled with scars. Some fresh and some old, his mind scarred from his past. His thundering hooves led him at a gallop towards the river. His full mane was black and white, like iced and black flames fanning the air. His thick tail was the purest ebony, rippling behind him like the flames of a wildfire. His white legs struck the ground with force as he ran, his feathers rippling easily. His body was massive, but then again he was a light draft horse. And he was a gelding, something that usually did not survive in the wild. But fate had brought him here.

The tri colored beauty behind him cantered at a more sedate pace, her blue eyes taking in the scene of the river. She was calmer than her half brother, all could tell that. Her face held a serene look, but then again she had lived in the wild for years now. Her bay body was dappled with rich color, her thick mane and tail rippling like flames in the wind. Her feathers moving gracefully as she cantered behind Kadison, her half brother. "Kaddy, I am coming, just stop running so fast. We will get there when we get there." She snorted softly as she let herself come to a halt, looking around.

Kadison galloped for a bit more before sliding to a stop, letting himself finally look around. He had spirit, all of King's offspring had that. He let himself lift off the ground in a rear as he looked around, letting a neigh slip through his muzzle as he graced the ground again.

Minu was getting a refreshing drink of water from the river when she heard the thundering of hooves. Alarmed, she looked up to see a black and white tobiano Gypsy Vanner coming towards her, with another not too far behind. The one behind was smaller, and had striking blue eyes for being the color it was.

The one in front had a deeper voice. That must mean he's a male. I wonder what the other is? she thought. Just as she thought that, the other spoke. Female. Maybe they'll be my friend? She turned her body around to face them, her tail barely brushing the ground, her ebonite body gleaming in the sun. She surely was a specimen to behold. She was a purebred Friesian, off a ranch that bred Arabians and Shetlands.

Minu had been in the wild for a year now, wandering. No idea where she was headed, only going where her own four hooves led her.
She called out to the two,
"Hello! Who are you? I am Minu."

Kadison's deep eyes turned to her, almost startling in place. He always was the more responsive and alert of the pair. He turned towards the ebon mare, his eyes looking her over. Too bad he was a gelding. She was a pretty thing, but he was not here to find a mate. No, he was here to find friends and his sire.

Orchid's blue eyes swept over the mare. A breed similiar to themselves, deep and strong with a taller stance but bred to pull carriages as well. It was Orchid that spoke, speaking for the both of them since Kadison's mind was seemingly elsewhere. "Hello Minu, I am Orchid and my speechless companion is my brother, Kadison. It is a pleasure to meet you."

Minu watched as the male's eyes swept over her body. Not that she wasn't used to it, as many others had done the same, some tried doing much worse, but still...she shifted uncomfortably before turning her attention to the female.

"Hello. Orchid," she replied before turning her head to the male--wait, gelding--and saying, "and hello, Kadison. It is a pleasure to meet both of you as well. I have been wandering for about one whole year, without anyone to talk to."

The breeze picked up a little, blowing the horse's manes and tails about before letting them back down.

Minu shifted her weight to her other side.

"What are you two doing here? Wandering through like I, or are you here for another reason?" She directed the question at both, seeing who would answer.

Kadison stepped forward slightly, his head upright. "We are looking for our sire. Orchid heard stories that he lives here with a herd on a Ridge. We are not sure where that is, but it has to be close by since no where else has heard of King. We are only half siblings, but we found each other along the way and now we are rather close, at least for traveling companions. But you could always come with us, King is a good sire, and a great stallion, I am sure." He nodded his head somewhat, his tail flicking behind him.

Orchid let her eyes wander over to her brother as she watched him speak. So he had a voice in front of this mare? She snorted softly, then stepped up beside her brother, her ears upright and her tail flicking slightly. "We have both been in different situations and Kaddy here is bolder than myself...of course I lived in the wild longer... Please excuse his rashness." Her voice was kind, rather gentle for a wild mare. She let her forelock slide slightly into her blue eyes as she stood beside her brother, waiting to see what the mare would say.

"Your sire? Why is he here, and why do you not know where he is? Not that I know where my dam..or sire are anymore, after being sold to that man when I was a filly....." Minu trailed off, remembering her mother's gentle voice and her father's slightly rough one. "I would love to come with you two!" she exclaimed once she heard Kadison say that she could come with them.

She looked down at the ground, then back up at the two horses.
"Oh, that's quite alright, Orchid. I would love to come with you two, if you wouldn't mind. I've been hoping to join a herd willingly sooner or later."

Kadison looked to the mare, "We were born in captivity, away from our father. He was a top sire when he was younger and he escaped into the wild as our mothers told us. Now we are looking for him to see what he really is like, maybe we are like him and maybe we are not. And I am happy that you are coming! Maybe we can have some adventure as well!" He was no colt looking for silly adventures anymore, but he was still young at heart, a playful and active gelding, ready for anything. And rather studdish sometimes.

Orchid's soft eyes looked at the mare once more, "I am sure that father would accept you in the herd, mother always spoke of how he was a gentleman in person." Her voice was soft and rather subtle as she lowered her head to the grasses to nip a mouthful of the fragrant forage.

"That's how I was, but my mother and father are still at the draft horse farm. I escaped out of a horse trailer when I was being taken to the auctions. I am glad I'm coming too. I've finally made some friends that I can go into a herd with!" Minu replied happily.

"I'm glad he would accept me." Minu let her eyes wander down to the clear river rushing past, then back up to the two horses.

"So, when do we leave?" Minu was eager to be away from the river. She had been in this new area for a day, and was growing bored of it. She didn't like being by herself in many places for too long of a time. It made her feel...vulnerable. At least, that's what she thought. She thought if she stayed by herself for too long in one area, a predator could come and get her, scope her out.

Kadison looked to Minu, "We can start now if you want. I am sure that Orchid would agree with me that as soon as we find a Ridge, I would want to rest there since it has to be close to Father." He lowered his muzzle to the rich grasses and cropped at them greedily.

Orchid snorted softly, "Always the hungry one. Let us eat some then we shall begin the rest of our journey into the unknown then." She lowered her head as well and started cropping the grass like her brother.

Minu listened to the male Vanner talk.
"All right, let's eat some, and be on our way. I don't like being in a place for too long. It makes me sort of wary."
Minu lowered her head to the grass, cropping it like the other two. She would occasionally look up and smell the air, like she always did. After all, she had to. Being alone for a long time like she had makes one wary of their surroundings.
