He was a powerful stallion, black as ebony yet faded in the mane and tail. His eyes shone with a dark and haughty air, aloof to the world around him. His tail fanned out behind him as he strode into this place, nostrils flaring as he scented the air. A powerful scream ripped through his throat as he announced his presence, a strong and virile stallion had arrived.
Behind him slightly, an almost delicate and feminine mare walked with the clumsy grace of a mare in foal. Her steel colored coat shone with a radiance while her black mane and tail added color with a rich luster. Her legs were still black, and her eyes shone with a radiance that could only be described as true love. When the black stopped, her hooves rooted into the ground and echoed the call that he had produced.
"Cryptic, do you think this place would really be the one for us?" Her voice was soft, but carried the air of a true lead mare, always mindful that she would truly choose where they would call home.
"Tehala, my love, I believe that we will just rest here and let your hooves rest. I would like to find an open place where we can have it all." He turned to her, nibbling along her crest lovingly as he listened to the river flowing.
Their home was a quiet field until recently. It was just a week ago that he was driven away from the home herd because of a fight between him and a rank dun stallion named Raidho and his second in command named King. Those two had taken him by surprise and with Tehala in foal, he chose to just leave.
Tehala flagged her tail and pranced slightly, "I think that I could learn to love this place and having you all to myself. I have no clue why those other silly mares would leave such a strong and powerful stallion that sires such strong colts." She nickered seductively and tossed her tangled mane.
Cryptic laughed softly, a rough and dark sound, and reached towards her neck, biting down a bit harder than a nip. "Settle down, my dark beauty. We have so many years for that and not many for being on our own in peace."
