The sun was dimming leaving a pink hue to the sky as it traveled down to go in hiding. Sindhi's hooves didnt seem like they were taking him fast enough, he couldnt wait to get 'home' though he really didnt have a home anymore. He missed their herd land where he had grown up and rough housed with his siblings. It all seemed like a century ago. He had gone and scouted it out a few months ago but just like he had suspected Dagger had moved in like the bastard he was. The Perlino could hardly breath by the time he returned back to the Sandstone hills. He was sure glad when he saw the small group of horses milling around part of him was nervous.
His eyes swept the surroundings "Sid! welcome back" Spartan jogged the rest of the way to greet him "how did it go?" The ebony stallion had met with the group just over a year ago and had the circumstances they really needed the help; most of the herd was dead or missing. Sindhi felt like there was heavy weight on him all the time with the missing was Scout his first love. He flicked his good ear towards Spartan "As well as we can hope-how is he?" Spartan's mood seemed to shift "unstable I don't know whats gotten into him" Sid nodded
"he's probably just upset. He did lose everything" the perlino tried to reassure him or himself to be honest he was tired of making excuses for the stallion-he was showing to much weakness.
Sid left Spartan standing there he jogged a small way up another stony ridge stopping at the top. There was small cave he just see the entrance of. He was fully nervous now every time he entered the cave it felt like he was trying to be suffocated. He cleared his throat and entered. The air was thick and pitch black. "Dad?" He called only to be answered by silence. He thought about leaving not sure if he wanted to go any farther but he took another step into the darkness.
Hero laid on his side staring at the darkness of the cave. He had nothing anymore his army at failed him-he had failed himself. He should have thought things out better and kept his mares more secure but that was not his most troubling worries now Dagger wanted him dead, for now he was safe the stallion neither knew he was alive or dead but he was never safe. Dagger was a worthy opponent one Hero was not sure he could even beat. He had thought over that night trying to figure out what went wrong but most of it blended into the darkness of his mind.
Hero had a plan he always did but at this time he wished that Dagger would end his misery. The scarred stallions ear twitched at the sound of Sid's voice so his son had returned? He didn't answer what was the point anymore.
Sid walked farther into the darkness waiting for his eyes to adjust he saw the outline of Hero's body on the ground " Fire took the bait. Everything will be alright. You always know what to do" Hero twitched and kept silent his son trusted him way to much why had he not just left like the others? "Dad?" Sindhi whispered again "did you see her?" Hero's voice cracked not being used very often anymore. Sid signed tired of the moping around "You always told me to never show weakness. Everyone is seeing yours" that seemed to hit his father-he hated to be called weak. Hero staggered to his hooves and swung his head around angry flaring "weak?" He snarled. Sid grimes at the sight of his fathers face his eye was completely gone and left was an empty socket and gnarled up skin; his face had been ruined. Hero looked Sid over with his good eye "leave" he said flatly "dad-" Hero swung his head biting Sindhi's neck and drawing blood "get out!" he growled. Sindhi sidestepped and pulled away leaving the cave has quickly has he could.
Sindhi growled as he entered back into the fading light blood dripping down his neck. Pageant was waiting outside. "What do you want?" He snarled. Page looked the stallion up and down. She had changed no longer the sweet mare she had been before being stolen-she was dark and twisted now. She had suppressed all her feeling putting them in a box deep in her chest. Hero had beat her into submission and brained washed her. Her blue eyes were dull and lifeless now. In truth she was no longer a prisoner. She chose to stay. Pageant smiled wickedly "Hero In a bad mood?" She said sweetly. Sid shrugged not really caring for the mare that much Kuma had been more her type a little spit fire she had been. " when is he not lately? By the way I saw your stallion. He's really itching to get you back again" Page's emotion didn't change " So? Fire's weak he couldn't protect me. Hero protects me now." Sindhi sighed "you know you will have to go back in order for Hero's plan to work." At that moment four foals came running by Page took step back as they raced between them. Razan a pretty little Butter Buckskin copy of copy of her father paused in front of Sindhi "will you take us to the river to play?" She asked her half brother in excitement. Pageant smiled happy for a change of topic as she watched Sid's face turn to embarrassment he looked up to catch Page watching him and wanting to hide the embarrassment " race you" he began to gallop with the foals.
Pageant heaved a sigh of relief "I never understood why Fire loved you" Page turned to the entrance of the cave "I don't know either" she replied coldly. Hero stepped out the moon catching his hide " I know now" Hero touched the mares neck taking in her scent. Pageant stood still " why is that?" She stayed emotionless she was used to seeing scared horses " your loyal and beautiful" Hero replied with lust filled eyes. If Page was still well Page she would have been disgusted and probably gave the stallion a swift bite but instead she turned her head away. " I think Amazon wants to speak to you" She said flatly.
Sure enough Hero turned to see the mare had ventured over the ridge and had stopped not too far away. He began to walk over towards her looking back at Pageant who still stood in the spot he had left her. He had won her over had he not? However no matter how hard he tried too who her she was distant and cold. Hero thought she wanted him now. He wanted the mare-not because he loved her but kind of like he wanted Smoke to bug Fire and his father.
Pageant stood in spot watching Hero. She didn't love the stallion-she simply didn't care what happened to her along the way she had lost herself. The words she had said about Fire felt true that's what Hero had said so many times has he beat her where's Fire now to protect you? The mare shuddered at the thought and she closed her eyes going back to the days in Fire's herd; suddenly she was filled with rage thinking of Fire. She was torn she loved Fire didn't she? Then why did she hate the chestnut stallion? Why would the feeling not go away? What had Hero done to her?
"Amazon? Is everything alright?" Hero asked as he stood in front of the mare "Hero I'm glad your feeling better" she reached her muzzle up and touched the stallions good cheek. His white forelock had fallen over his bad eye covering up some of the gnarled up skin. He turned his head just so he could look out of his good eye. Amazon smiled at him he didn't really care for the mare she could at times be overbearing but he was never one to turn down a loyal mare she was especially pretty and made the dull days go by faster. " Hero I think we should find a herd the foals need a stable place moving from place to place is not going to keep them safe forever." Hero understood what the mare was saying however part of him did not want to see this mare as his lead- he was waiting for the return of his lovely Peril. She was like fresh sunshine everyday oblivious of his evil plans. She didn't see him as some evil or cruel leader she saw him as a Hero her equal and for that he truely loved the mare; she could do no wrong in his eyes. He longed for the day he could run his muzzle down her beautiful neck. The stallion shook his head getting any memories of Peril to fall out. "I understand what your getting at but we simply can't run a herd with one mare, four foals and four stallions." Hero had begun walking up the ridge as he spoke and Amazon fallowed. " I'm sorry Hero I didn't think it through" Hero flicked his ear in Acknowledgement. His eyes scanned the Sandstone Hills danger could be lurking around every corner.
He nodded towards Spartan who had started to move towards him " Hero buddy glad to see you up and about! So are you ready to tell me this brilliant plan you and Sid have hatched?" Hero barked a laugh " actually this one was all Sindhi" he didn't like having to admit it but it was only right to give his son credit for this one. "He's great kid. You did wonders with him" Spartan was looking down towards his own son grazing. Hero fallowed his gaze Mercury rubbed him the wrong way but he would allow him to stay for his good and only friend at this time. " you still have a chance to turn him around" Hero offered "he's weak minded" Spartan shook his head. Hero shrugged " I need to go speak to Sid now" he nodded at Amazon heading towards the small water hole where the foals often played.
Sid reared up splashing water all over Inscenacija she was the smallest of the foals and the daughter of Kumasaka and Sketch. Sid had to admit he didn't like the thought of keeping the filly here Sketch had always been a rival and the thought of him getting a mare before him made him itch. He often thought about Scout and the foal she had been carrying of his before the battle; had she been killed?
The filly squealed water dripping off her muzzle but she turned just as Haidar tugged her tail. Sid turned as he felt warmth against his body "Razvan?" The filly looked troubled "is dad going to be okay Sid?" She was the closes to her father compared to her twin and even Sid "Yes he's just going through a hard time before you were born we used to have a home but a bad stallion named Dagger stole it." Razvan seemed to be thinking about that " so why doesn't dad kill him?" She asked. " Soon" the filly jumped as both her and Sid turned to see Hero standing in the water. Sid opened his mouth to say something "Sindhi can we talk?" Hero looked at the bite mark and dried blood on the stallions chest. Sindhi nodded and fallowed his father out of the water "I apologize for losing my temper back there" Hero looked out in the horizon well Sid looked at the ground. " I'm worried about you dad" Sid looked up to have his father eyes on him "then don't I'm your father not your child" Sindhi flinched how could he not worry for his sire? As the battle begun Sid helped chase some of the young horses into the trees but before he did he paused only for a second to see his father fight with Fire. The fight was bloody and the two stallions had reared and battle; that day was the day Hero lost his eye from Fire and Sid had lost his ear from Flame.
The two of them continued to walk in silence. They were both lost in their own thoughts " are you worried?" Hero looked over at his son "why should I be?" He asked " well...everyone wants you dead" Sid was a little shocked at his fathers composer. "We don't have to worry you fixed everything now" Sid looked at his father "we don't even know if it will work" Hero laughed "have faith son" the buttermilk buckskin nudged his young son and Sid turned chasing after his father. It was the first time both had forgotten about the weight on their shoulders.
It was pitch black by the time Hero and his son returned back to the group of horses. The foals were tucked away in the grass sleeping with the watchful eyes of Spartan and Amazon. Nearby Mercury stood his ears and eyes alert as he watched the return of the king and his son. The herd stayed alert for the rest of the night.
Note: Hero is looking for strong followers and mares.
