Taking his age and level of ability into consideration, Slade had done pretty well for himself thus far. He had Valentine, which had been his primary goal for much of his short life up until now, and now their pretty little daughter as well. No, he had no complaints, and didn't yet feel too ambitious to go after more. But the way things were, they would need a territory to live in, and expand their herd a bit to ensure Venus' safety. Besides, no stallion his right mind would turn down the prospect of a new mare, and though Slade was quite happy with his beloved Valentine, he couldn't deny that he was excited to grow his herd a bit.
Striding along the river's edge, the stocky dark bay stallion paused and whinnied loudly, sounding the area for other equines. By sunset he would return to where Valentine and Venus were sequestered away; with any luck, he would have found someone suitable to introduce for Valentine's approval by then. If not, he would simply have to continue his search tomorrow.

RaineStorm heard the call and soon she woke Shade. "What is it momma?" He asked as he got up. "Hopefully a home." She told him with a smile, "but I want you to stay hidden until I call for you." She then pushed Shade under the trees they were near and walked off with her head up. As she neared where she was sure the stallion was, she let out a nicker of friendliness. Soon the stallion had come into sight and RaineStorm lowered her head in a greeting way.
Shade wasn't as willing to wait as his mom had hoped for and he soon was darting in and out of shadows trying to catch up to RaineStorm. As soon as he caught sight of his mother, Shade took off at a run to come to stand under her tail, peeking around her back legs.

Slade turned his head curiously at the sound of a stranger's voice. Perhaps he would be lucky after all? Soon an elegant grey mare came into view, and he stepped towards her confidently upon seeing no others nearby. That assessment was not quite true however, as within moments a little black colt came sprinting after her. For a moment, Slade was taken aback, not expecting a foal to appear from nowhere, but he soon collected himself. "Hello," he said, pleasantly enough despite his lack of eloquence, "My name is Slade. Who are you? And are you two on your own...? It seems unusual for a mare with a foal to be away from a herd..." Foals generally required stallions if they were to come into existence, and few stallions would voluntarily abandon a mare so easily; it was an odd sight, and aroused his curiosity.
