HAHA, he laughed to himself as he trotted into this rocky and hilly terrain. Sure, there were other horse here, but they did not concern him st the moment. No, he just ignored them. A strong neigh left his lips as he called to the land itself. The stallion knew these lands well, but he had not been born here. Just who was this noisy stranger?
His coat was of the deepest obsidian and shone like the stone as well. His build was powerful, but not overly large. But it was his distinct white tail that set him apart from other black mustangs. He was the unholy son of Cryptic. A stallion nearly just as evil as his sire had been. But he had left these lands, why was he back?
Perhaps it was because his sire was back in the lands. Or maybe it was due to the white stallion named the Reaper. Or perhaps he was just looking for a herd to call his own in an area that was familiar to him. Whatever the case, Syn was back in town and ready for action. His white tail swung behind him as he neighed his arrival once more, tossing his gnarled mane and pawing at the red land. Snorting deeply, he lowered his head and grazed on what he could find. Maybe other horses would find him soon.

"Keep Up Whisper!" Chuckled the smiling face of a young flaxen maned filly. Kicking up the dust behind her was the refined colt You, with a determined glint in his eye, a deep breath and a kick in his stride You galloped to be neck and neck with his challenger. Though the last narrow neck of the canyon the colt was gaining ground, inch by inch. Beau gritted her teeth to the challenge, and pushed herself up to the mark. The Canyon sides crumbled away, large boulders littered the last of the sandy racetrack. You ducked as Beau weaved, separating the pair, just for the moment. You gained ground with the bolder move, but Beau was hot on his heals. A Pinnacle of Cliffside left a narrow line in the sand with its shadow. The Grulla was the first to throw his dark hoof into the shadow. "Damn" Beau said catching her breath after flying over the line. You's chest was heaving, but he grinned cheekily at the filly, Beau smiled back.
The youngsters complemented each other nicely. Both of fine build, sharing there age and height. "S-stop calling me Whisper" You coughed. Beau looked round to him. "Well 'You' isn't really a name is it? Whisper suits you better" She said with a smile, her golden locks falling down her face, hiding her large golden brown eyes. You just grinned. "C'mon lets get to the oasis before we dehydrate" You's body shook like he was laughing, but he made no noise. Still Beau new he was happy. She walked into his shoulder playfully before leading the way to the dusty plain they'd been grazing for the last few days. You just shook his head when she walked into him, and trotted to catch up, only to have Beau trot away. They raced the rest of the distance between the track and the plain.
Beau was laughing at You again, she missed the dark patch in the grazing spot, till it was too late to make a hidden exit. She put her breaks on, only to have You trot ahead of her and wheel round to face her, missed the black altogether. "Look" Beau said pointing ahead with her nose. You's head flashed round, his heart beating faster. Both the youngsters where facing a full grown stallion, just grazing on their plain. "Lets go Whisper, we'll find somewhere else to drink" Beau said with a worry in her voice. You shook his head violently. "What?" Beau said, "You can't be serious, that's a old stallion, I don't want to graze with him here. I don't trust him" She continued. You still shook his head, then walked over and put his head over her withers, pulling her in slightly. "Thanks Whisper, but I don't want to be protected by you, you'd get creamed" She said, pulling back from the embrace to look at You, who was clearly feeling wounded by the comment. "Don't take it the wrong way Whisp, but he's bigger and older than the both of us..." She quietened to stare at the odd tailed stranger. You followed her glance and sighed, rolling his eyes he walked in the direction they'd arrived from. Beau followed suit.
Both walked slowly though the Sandstone hills weren't worth wondering unprepared, they both needed a drink before a long hike, and the closest water source was the one behind the strange black stallion. Both youngsters seemed to remember that detail at the same time, they looked at each-other. "We have to go back for water don't we?" Beau asked, You nodded. Beau gave out a sigh as they walked back down to the grassy plain and the stranger. "How about if we just walk passed him, don't look at him, or talk or anything. Just pretend we didn't see him, Okay?" Beau said to You with there heads low, like they were hatching a evil plan. You nodded in agreement. And for the second time they saw the black thing on the plain. "Okay Whisp, ignoring starts... now" Beau said, You nodded and tightened up his lips, playing along. The rule was a bit pointless to a cold who couldn't raise more than a whisper when he spoke. Attempting to walk inconspicuously though the middle of the plain both youngsters had their tails uncomfortably between there legs, and a fast walk turned into a speedy shuffle the closer they got to Syn. once parallel to Syn the youngsters shuffle got impressively faster till they reached the water, both drinking in unison so they could leave quickly if needed be.

From far off, he heard a scream that was familiar. He knew that sound very well. Father. Just what was that horrid beast up to? He snorted loudly and shook his head. He was probably trying to claim a land. Maybe he should go stop the old loon and take the land himself. Yes, that is what he should do.
His white tail flagged over his back as he looked around with his cold eyes. Where was the sound coming from? The territories, he was sure of it. Likely that stupid mountain he liked so much. With a squeal, he kicked up his heels and pinned his ears. He was coming for Cryptic. He was going to do something to the old stallion, but he wasn't sure what he would do yet. But he was going to the mountains. He streaked off towards the infernal mountain.
He halted upon hearing voices and snorted loudly before raising his ears upright. Ooo....children. He loved children. For supper. He spun to face them and pinned his ears, " Hello, lovelies. Are you lost?" His voice was like melted butter as he spoke to the youngsters. He began to stride towards them, a confident swagger in his step. " Dont be afraid of uncle Syn now, speak up."

Beau gasped when the larger stallion closed in, "We're fine!" She nearly shouted, though the loudness wasn't intended, she was just nervous. She took a few steps back. Whilst You put himself between Beau and the larger stallion. His ears pinned and his neck lowered, like a lion about to pounce. "Whisp stop it you'll get hurt" Beau said, nudging the colts rump with her nose. But You meant to protect Beau, he lowered his brows. He didn't want a challenge, but his stance made it clear he didn't want the stranger near his friend either. When the Stranger said 'speak up' You's eyes narrowed. Beau looked between him and the obviously more advantaged stallion. "Whisper can't talk he's all scarred" Beau blurted, The puff in You's chest deflated a little, he didn't need to know that. "Go Ah-way" He croaked, still feeling a little breathless from their run, he was sure Beau was tired too.

"Ha! A tiny challenger! Come now, you wouldn't want to lose your life over something so trivial. Maybe I am just an old stallion without aland and just cchose to graze here. Or maybe I am a mass murderer that is looking for fresh blood. But you lovely would never know, would you? And you want me to go away? You are the ones that came into my land!" His voice ended in a deep growl.
His white tail flashed against his black sides as he began to stroll around the youngsters in a circle, something that he had learned from his sire. To circle your for was to intimidate them and he would choose to rather talk them down rather than fight. He wanted to save his energy for his sire.
He stopped in front of them after one circle and stood proudly, his muscles gleaming under a shining coat. He was not all powerful, but he sure could show that he was. His sire had taught him well, but now was the time to show the young ones that they should not mess with older stallions.

You drew his ears against his neck as the stallion circled them tightly, but his body never moved, he followed the stallion only with his head. Beau on the other hand was rightfully nervous and carelessly showing it. Her tail was tucked in as the stallion circled like a predator, she kept moving round with him, bumping into You more than once till the stallion finished his lap and stopped. Beau ending up beside You. You's Muscles were bunched and tense. "We didn't mean to" Beau answered. Her voise cutting the silence, You flinched, he was now worried any serious move he made would be seen as a challenge to the black stallion. "We've been staying here a while, but if you want it we'll move on" Beau said hastily, her voice was starting to sound shaky. "Whisper, calm down a bit you can't fight him" Beau whispered into You's ear, You glanced at her, a 'I can and I will' glint in his eye.
Beau was terrified, and also wanted to get away as soon as possible, She took a few steps back, water or no water they needed to head deeper into the sandstones. "C'mon You we'll find more water elsewhere, and Mr Syn can stay here" She beckoned, still walking away backwards, You didn't look behind himself though. The tone of the stranger, he dare-not take his eyes off him. Beau slowed her retreat, waiting for You to realise she was away.

"Oh tiny one, go play with your friends. I won't hurt you today. In fact, you lovelies can stay here with me if you want. I will protect you and you can join my herd. My mare will find me soon and we will be finding a nice land to call our own. Just think, you would never have to worry about another stallion again. And you, tiny stallion, can stay as long asyou respect me. The moment you stop respecting me, well I'd run fast if I were you. But join me and be protected. I will not harm you.". Syn's smooth voice turned sweet as he softened his actions and let his ears rise above the tangled mane and forelock.
He shook his head and awaited the answer from the young ones. He remembered those days, but he was kicked quite forcefully out of hhis father's herd and no one wanted to help him. Maybe he would not have been the evil thing that stood here today.

"Yes" Beau said hastily, more as a relief to hear the Stallion had no intention of hurting them. You however was less than impressed, The younger stallion turned sharply to see Beau walking up to him again. He glared at her angrily, But she chose to ignore him. "I'm Beau" She said standing next to a grumpy looking You. "This is Whisper, his real names You but I changed it because Whisper sounds cooler" She said still talking rather fast. "I don't like him" You grumbled. "It'll be good to have more eyes around Whisper, and another mare, we'd be like a little herd" Beau mused the idea of a herd. She'd yet to join one.
The same Idea briefly brought back the memories of his storm torn home, his young nemesis and first sweetheart. To him the idea of a herd was less than appealing. Though Beau's eager appearance made the concept slightly more tolerable. And they could always leave when the novelty wears off for Beau. Reluctantly, very reluctantly You straightened himself up in front of Syn. Fighting the urge to grit his teeth, he bowed slowly and stiffly to the larger skunk tailed stallion. Be closed his eyes momentarily then swiftly raised himself back to face him. Beau dared to wear a little smile, happy at the idea of a herd.

Syn chuckled softly at the young horses around him. Youth sure had its advantages and being naive was one of them. If only they knew who he truly was and what he could truly do. He nodded as the one spoke to him, his mind racing on how he was going to call his mare here with him. He knew that she would come running as long as she was still alive and he prayed that she was still alive.
His tail twitched nervously behind him, the white contrasting with his dark hide as his ears flicked back and forth. Yes, this is what he needed, another herd. He did enjoy herd life and loved the mares when he was able to. But he was not his father. He would not force himself on his mares. Ok, maybe he would if they just would not listen to reason.
A call left his mouth as he listened to the young horses. A call that would hopefully call his mare and any other mare that was near him. It was breeding season after all and he knew that mares would be looking for a strong stallion. He was indeed strong, and had some rather decent genes to offer the foals. Even if they did come from a mass murderer.

Cascade had hardly taken a break since leaving the King of Cruel's presence, Her condition was showing it, her ribs and hips had started to protrude through her amber pelt. Her eyes had glazed over and her hooves were chipped and worn. All so she could get back to her Oasis, she could find Syn later, it was her home she yearned for. She found a second wind when her hooves found themselves on the harsh red-stones. The Rocks and weeds led the way to her waters. The winds carried her the scents of other horses, she wasn't going to bother moving them out of her oasis still she was stronger. The closer to home she got, the more reality started seeping back in, her hooves hurt, she was hungry.
A Stallions roar, Cascades ears pinned and hair spiked. That's not what she wanted to hear, a damn bachelor. She continued to walk ears pinned towards the direction of the scream. Though she had no intention to investigate. She could smell the water. She dropped her head to the refreshing liquid before she noticed a group upstream. 'damn them' she thought snorting and looking away. She continued to take deep long gulps, she could feel the water cooling her, calming her.
Beau stood with You giving him a childish nudge, and a smile. Nope. You was burning angry still inside, and a little humiliated. But if the stallion wasn't going to hurt them he was having a drink. His mouth was bone dry. Giving Beau a rather cold shoulder he turned tail to drink at the stream. Beau looked a little emotionally wounded but still came to his side to do the same.
