Born from love, raised in fear, baptized by war and tried by responsibility; perhaps there lay salvation at the end of his road as well, but today he could not even see what lay around the next bend. Zodiac was on a journey, a pilgrimage which had seemed so important at one time; yet now he struggled to remember why he had even left. Mosaic, maybe. But she was family. He loved his family, he cared for them, he watched over them all and made sure to keep them safe from harm when his mother could not do so. Still he had left, on a journey of self-discovery one might call it. Just like his mother, really- Pharaoh had been traveling for many years of her life, a wanderer even when she was stationed within a herd. But Pharaoh was always moving towards something, searching for a goal which she struggled to name. Zodiac, on the other hand, was troubled by the increasing suspicion that he was running away.
But that was nonsense- they were always in his thoughts, and he still went out of his way to make sure they were alright. Zodiac had met his sire a while back, a brief and almost awkward meeting- it was not easy to speak with a stallion who had loved his mother, when she herself could not remember him at all. But after that, he had been on his own, and during that time, he had tracked down Pharaoh once again, to a new herd in the Aspens and a new brother. He had known instantly then that Pharaoh had met Eros once more, and he had wondered how it had affected her; she hadn't shown any signs of remembering the stallion she had apparently met by chance in the wilderness. Perhaps Eros had left her in peace then, not burdening her with the troubles of her missing past. She had been safe and happy then, at least, and Zodiac had left with the promise of meeting his brother Chakra again when the colt was a bit older.
Since then, though... admittedly, he had just spent every day walking, lost in his thoughts, barely speaking to a soul. This desert was comforting in that sense; the vast emptiness gave him space. But with each passing day, he felt a growing tension. His sisters... they needed him. Something was not right. And there was Salem, as well, a shadow in the corner... Zodiac refused to think ill of any of his family, but he was not sure he trusted his brother entirely.
He didn't need to think about all that though, right? Many young stallions left home without a backwards glance. And yet he still couldn't shake off this feeling. They needed him. They needed the guidance and responsibility he had always provided. But how could he give them that, if he himself was in need of the very same thing?
He had been plodding along in the dust for hours; now he halted, the hot sun beating down on his back even though it was only spring. Zodiac had just been wanting to get away from it all, but out here in the desert, he had never felt so lonely in his life. He simply did not know what to do anymore.
