History:
Pepper was born to the south of Sunshine River, to two thoroughbred racers. Her father was a highly prized racehorse, her mother was an up and coming eventer, which is where Pepper gets her speed from and her love for jumping. She has a personality to match her fiery colour - feisty, determined, and sometimes reckless (this last one stems from her bloodline), though these moments are rare - mostly Pepper is calm enough to function in disasters, and she's curious enough to get herself into trouble. Being a young horse, one would wonder why she runs wild instead of being in the possession of man as her parents are. This is due to her old owners selling her, as little more than a 1 year old, to who they thought would break her in fairly when she was of the correct age and well and give her the chance she needed. Little did they know that Pepper's new owner was a hard man when it came to breaking in young horses (and he attempted to break Pepper soon after she arrived), when she shied at the saddle, he belted her with a whip. If she refused to move due to fright or wariness, her caution was met with harsh words and strong kicks. Once, her ribs were bruised for two weeks after her owner mounted her and kicked her over and over again.
We all know that a horse won't tolerate that for long, and Pepper promptly bucked him off. This little act of resistance bought her a harsh kick to the hock - which lamed her for a week, and her sale as an unbroken youngster to a dealer.
As she was being loaded into the trailer, Pepper reared and broke free of the leadrope. So terrified that her third owner would be as harsh as her second, she ran for it. Along the way, Pepper managed to escape from the headcollar by rubbing it against a tree. It eventually got caught on a tiny branch. And so it was that Pepper came to Sunlight River - she's looking for a place of safety, with no humans as she is now completely terrified of them.
