A stout-framed white mare staggered into Mare Lake, her belly heavy with pregnancy. It was mid springtime, and Tulip Pegasus was no fool. She knew she would be birthing soon, if not at this very moment. A terrible pain like she had never known before racked her shaking body.
Her head and heart pounded, and her eyesight spun wildly, and suddenly it was over. Shivering more than ever, feeling as weak as a newborn itself, she gasped and stumbled and nearly fell to the ground. But, it was over. Suddenly, just like that.
Shaking, Tulip turned to regard a rather pretty-looking filly who stood on... well... surprisingly strong-looking legs.
Must get her looks and wot from her father, she thought to herself. She no longer thought of Rosemont with bitterness, to her surprise... the mare merely felt.. well, really, she felt nothing. He was jut a name. Another face from her past.
And then, there was another thing... what to name the little thing. She stood shakily, staring at her mother with big, blue, heartrending eyes just like her father's. She looked a little confused, and almost sad... Tulip Pegasus smiled comfortingly, and licked the little filly gently. However, before she could ruminate any more on names, a panic-stricken cry for help hit the air. Astonished, the mare turned to see... yet another mare... yet another mare giving birth!
A small colt stood next to her... he looked like a yearling.

Tulip Pegasus smiled, a bit wearily, at the approaching mare. The birthing, her first ever, had taken quite a bit out of her... but, surprisingly, less than she had expected.
The white mare said softly, "Thank you... her name is Roselie." The name came to the tip of her tongue quite easily, and she didn't regret it. Her brown eyes rested warmly on on the two foals, both colts, that stood a bit behind their mother... Jax and Max, were they?
Wasn't feeling very creative when she named them, I suppose, the mare thought to herself, chuckling slightly. However, she herself knew that she shouldn't be making jibes at others' names. She herself found her own name rather ridiculous... Tulip Pegasus? Quite honestly, what was a pegasus, anyways? She'd met a few mares who'd told her of fables, myths, of a white horse who flew on wings, called Pegasus. She'd never heard of him, and yet she was named after him! How silly was that!
She supposed that was why she had named the little filly Rosemary. One day, Roselie would know that her father's name was Rosemont, and she would know why she was called Roselie. It was a luxury Tulip herself had never had.
Jerking herself out of her reverie, she said, a bit more brightly, "Come now, Rosie dear, introduce yourself you Kathy and Jax and Max."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The delicate, fragile-looking white filly watched the two colts move about behind their mother with enormous, beautiful, blue eyes. She was still unsure of this scary world, so loud and cold and rather unforbidding. But, steeling herself, she said, as calmly as she could, "My name is Roselie." Being so young, it was curious sensation, to her, to know so little about herself, and about those around her... she wondered what else she should say, what else she should do? She shot her mother a look for help, but the mare merely smiled encouragingly at her.
The white mare's heart hardened for a moment at Kathy's wistful-sounding words... Oh, what those irresponsible louts will do to mares! she thought irately to herself. To leave a pregnant mare with a foal not yet a year old! He must have been very cruel indeed.
"Sorry t'hear it, m'gel. Haven't had a very good time with stallions m'self, now. Rosemont, now, the blinkinflippinbloomin chap abandoned me pregnant, just like you, the blusterin' dunderhead!" However, for a moment, Tulip Pegasus stopped and caught herself before she was ranting to a random stranger, taking in a slow, deep breath.
"Not for me t'talk about 'round the little one, though," Tulip said out of the side of her mouth to Kathy. "Hows about we go somewhere quieter and leave them t'playin'?" Suddenly, the older colt, Jax, tripped and landed awkwardly at her feet.
"Oh, are you all right?" she said, starting forward, her motherly instincts kicking in already. However, as Jax backed up, apologizing profusely, she chuckled and shook out her frothy white mane. "No need to apologize," she told him merrily. "I see you and your brother are quite the gentlemen!" Roselie, although young, had enough sense to roll her eyes.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
A small shiver of fear ran through Roselie's delicate body as her mother turned to her and said, lightly, "Rosie dear, go on an' play with the boys. Be nice to Max and Jax, now, or I'll hear about it!" The filly frowned stubbornly at her mother and opened her mouth to protest, but before she could get in a single word, her mother had nudged her, quite firmly, towards the two colts and was off talking to the boys' mother in a low, serious voice.
Wishing that she could be a part of their grown-up conversation, but knowing she couldn't, Rosie turned to Max and Jax with a small sigh. "Good to meet you to," she said, eying the rather cowardly-looking Max a tad disapprovingly.
