Name: Polaris
Age: 5
Breed: Clydesdale
Height: 16.2 hh
Colour: Black
Eye Colour: Deep Brown, almost black
Gender: Mare
Markings: Full, white blaze on her face with four white feet. The white reaches just a little above the feathers. Typical of a Clydesdale.
Personality: Through her sorrow and feeling useless, she still has a rather happy disposition. She can grow to be shy, and it will take her time to open up, but in the end she makes a good companion. Protective and caring beyond belief, she's a friend that would die to save her herd. If you get on her bad side, she can be sarcastic and rude, so watch out! But her fuse is long, so it is usually not easy to get her upset.
History:
Polaris was born and raised on a large farm that specialized in her breed, the older horses being used for pulling large freights full of that seasons' harvest. The young filly watched with piqued interest as they hauled the heavy loads effortlessly, their nostrils flaring and muscles bunching as they stopped for nothing short of its destination. One day, she wanted to be one of those horses; it was something that every horse on that farm had one day hoped to be.
As she grew up, the two legged creatures would gather around her and throw ropes over her face, leading her to a rather small stable area. They pushed her onto a large scale and observed her closely, their heads held close together as they chattered noisily to one another. Another one held a rather long piece of metal next to her and stopped just above her withers. He made a ticking noise.
"She is too short," One of them said to the others, his voice low and a little agitated. He nearly threw the metal stick to the floor. Without much of a fight, she allowed them to take her back out to pasture. They left without much of a word, their eyes giving way to their disappointment. Her heart broke.
Another horse, much bigger in height and girth than she, trotted up to her. "It doesn't happen often, but...it does happen." He said with a loud snort. Polaris laid her ears flat against her head. "W-What do you mean?"
The stallion stomped his hoof and looked in the direction of the retreating humans. "They find one horse that they believe to not have what it takes to do the work, and they get rid of them." He shook his head. "I do so hope that you will find a good home. They usually do."
"But why? Why do they not want me? I can do the work!" Polaris began to grow frantic. She wasn't what they wanted? But it was nothing she could control! The stallion looked at her sadly. "It may be that you aren't tall enough."
She looked to the stallion indignantly. "I will grow more! I know I can!"
"It won't be in enough time, if it does eventually happen. They need us now. So, don't be disheartened young one. Someone will take you and there will be plenty of time to show them your strength."
Polaris was frightful. There was nothing she could do now to prevent this from happening. Dusk came upon them and the stallion left her to stand alone, the wind gently blowing away towards the woods. There was nothing left to do but leave. She would rather be alone outside of these gates than to be hauled away by the ones she thought would approve of her.
With one last, longing look towards the stables and the horses resting in the pastures, she took off towards the woods. With one leap she made it over the fence, and never looked back. Soon, the woods turned into a lush, green field, then turned into mountains. There was no other horse to be found; so far, she was alone in the world, and hoped to find a permanent home.
