Artemus sunk back a bit when the mule's words were sharp. He didn't mean to anger the mule at all by his words, and he wasn't even surre if he did, but he always just spoke the truth and what he thought. He listened as the mule's words softened a bit. He spoke to the mule with a quiet tone in his voice. "It is sad what the humans will do to horses and mules alike to fill their curiosity. Maybe I could meet Cochise and get to know him. I might be able to stick around with him after you pass on, down the road. I could probably understand his situation to a degree. Seems like the three of us -You, Cochise, and I- have a common history to some degree." Artemus hoped that he would be able to meet Cochise and get to know him.

Cougar shrugged. "I don' see why not. He'd be scared o ye, sure- but he's scared of everything and everyone. Can't seem to shake it. And he hates himself for it, ye know. I hear him whimper in his sleep. But I didn't tell ye that, I think he'd die of shame if he found out that I know as much as I do." The mule straightened his leg out, stretching, trying to increase the suppleness of the joint. It seemed to be dissipating a bit, which was a relief. The mule's sharp eyes caught the mare's shivering. "Don't like the cold?" he asked casually. Apart from over his scars, his body was covered in thick fluff.

(OOC: Sorry, muse level is low.)
Celeris shook her head. "No, I hate the cold. I'm used to nice, warm weather, as I'm sure you can tell by my coat. This weather is absolutely dreadful." She shivered again. "Not to mention that my fur is getting wet from this annoying snow," the roan mare growled. She eyed Cougar's warm and fluffy snow. 'Lucky him,' she thought. 'At least he's warm.' Silence once again ensued as she looked from one stallion to another. She really wasn't sure what to say now.

Artemus smiled at Cougar. "He won't have anything to be afraid of in me. I am just a blind old stallion with a heart full of love."[/b Artemus chuckled a bit at the thought of someone being afraid of him, but not out loud, just to himself. He spoke to Celearis with a nice tone of voice. "If your cold then you can stand closer to me. I would gladly keep you warm." Artemus stepped toward Celeris and put his body against hers. He tried his best to warm her up with his body heat.

Cougar snorted, deeply amused. "Cochise jumps at his own shadow, and leaves flutterin' in the breeze. I guess we'll have ter see if he likes ye or not." Immediately after saying this, he sighed regretfully. "Nah, I shouldn' laugh at 'im. 'T'aint his fault. Mind ye, I felt the same way my first few years at that place. And then I just got used to it. Maybe he'll be a stallion, one day... righ' now, he's just a terrified three year old. Or 'e will be, come spring." The whiskered mule tilted his head curiously at the mare. "Ye been free long? Ye don't strike me as the sort who takes te the wild easily."

His body heat felt good, but still, the situation was awkward to her. Not to mention the fact that she was still trying to convince herself that these stallions were to be trusted. They seemed trustworthy enough, even if the mule was a bit prickly, but many months of isolation, of convincing herself that she was better off without stallions had put her into a trust-no-one mind set and she knew it would be a while before she could get out of it. If she had reason to get out of it. So absorbed was she in her thoughts that she jumped slightly as the mules attention shifted to her. The entire time he and Artemus had been talking, the roan mare had been staring in the mule's direction, though not at him. "I've, uh, been out here for a few months, I think. It seems like it's been years, though. Years since I've enjoyed a bucket of grain or a warm stall or the caring touch of my master." Celeris blinked rapidly, forcing her tears to refrain from falling.

Artemus looked at Cougar. "Oh, I see, eell that's a bit ironic since I'm as blind as a bat. Well, I would still like to meet him, even if he is gonna be afraid of me. I have more to be afraid off in everything than he does. A simple rock could be the death of me. All I have to do is misstep and fall, I might not be able to find my way back up." He stayed next to Celeris and then waited for someone else to speak. He hated the silence, but he was used to it, he liked it better than the forever darkness that surrounded him.

Cougar gave the mare a sympathetic nod. "I s'pose that if ye liked yer humans ye wouldn' mind goin back. Meself and Cochise, now, anythin's better than with those creatures." When Artemus spoke, the aging mule simply shrugged. "I kin see how that'd be a problem for ye. Cochise is blind in his right eye, not his left thank goodness. Otherwise he'd get nowhere in life, not at all, not with 'im shakin in his boots at passin swallows. And as fer meetin him, I don' see why not. If yonder lady wants ter go, and if yer ready, we could now, if ye like." He nodded to Celeris as he spoke.

Celeris sat in silent thought, pondering the question the mule had posed. Did she want to go meet yet another stallion? Could that really be safe? Why wouldn't it be? These two had proved themselves gentle, why would this Cochise also? Besides, he also was not whole. The roan mare was starting to wonder if the majority of the population of this strange place was crippled. Was she one of the few whole equines? That thought once again gave her the impulse to move on- she could never fit in here. "Ummm, yeah. Sure. Why not? Let's go meet this Cochise," she stumbled.

Artemus smiled and spoke to the mare and the mule. "Well then, let's go meet Cochise. I can't wait to meet him." Artemus began to set off in the direction that he heard voices coming from, but he stopped to wait for the others and make sure he was going in the right direction. He stomped his hoof on the ground to knock some mud off of his hooves. Artemus lowered his head to nibble on the grass, but he quickly spit it back out, he hated the taste of grass. Artemus walked over to a tree where e heard leaves blowing in the wind. He lifted his head and ripped come of the leaves from the tree an ate them quietly.
