Timid and afraid, I watched the larger stallion kill my sire. I did not know what to do, but Spotted Elk herded me away from our parents, in hopes to save our lives. That is when he appeared. A tall black stallion that spoke as sweet as the new grass. I was just a weanling when he came to us, but I will never forget him. He took our mother and us into his herd and that is where my life changed. My mother became his slave and I was a play toy for the older and larger colts. My brother did what he could, but sometimes it did not do any good. They were just too big for me. I had to run, had to leave that place and that black stallion. But as a foal explained it to me one day, no one left the Dark Herd. I thought that I was doomed here and no one would save me. But Elk had a plan and I followed him that fateful day. As we ran from the herd, we heard an awful scream. The tall black had killed our mother for our absence. She died because of us. But that would not deter us now, there was nothing there to stop us from running.
We spent years trying to get out of the lands claimed by the Dark Herd. It was not easy, but finally we met with a painted grey and white stallion, who led us away from the plains. Desperado, his name. He was sweet and kind, called me his Princessa. Even Elk approved of him. But I never left with him to find a herd. No, he was a lone stallion and did not want to claim a herd at the time. I was still with my brother. That is when we found the Whisper Herd. They took us in and a mare there continued to raise us. My brother finally took a herd of his own just outside of the Whisper Canyon, but I stayed with this herd. While I have had my adventures, I always returned there. But now is the time to end the reign of terror and the hate between the Dark Herd and the Whisper Herd.
