Ayla walked into the new, unfamiliar land that had only a few horses in the distance, far, far, away. She sighed, and kept walking slowly to the big lake that was up ahead a little ways. Ayla had heard mares talk of this place, Mare Lake, they called it. Only mares were allowed here supposedly. Ayla was in search of company. She had been alone for days now. Her former stallion had disappered. She didn't care if the company she found was a stallion, colt, filly, or mare, she just wanted company. If she couldn't find any here, she would continue on to Gathering Fountain or Sunshine River. Ayla bent her graceful neck down and sipped up some of the water from the lake. It felt good, even though it was rather cold. Yes, winter was here again, and Ayla didn't really mind. She looked up at the darkening sky, millions of tiny, little snowflakes falling down. She took another sip of the water and trotted over to a large tree to take shelter for the night. Ayla had been wandering all night and needed to rest for a night. She lay down and looked out from under her tree to where she had just been standing, where there now was about an inch of snow. It was snowing hard, and looked like it wasn't going to stop until morning. Ayla curled her body even tighter to keep as much warmth in as she could. She only hoped the storm would stop soon and she could continue her search tomorrow. She was going to search the whole valley before she kept on going to Gathering Fountain and Sunshine River. Ayla really hoped she would get some luck and not have to wander into someone's territory where vicious stallions were waiting. She had been lucky last time when she accidently wandered into a territory where a nice stallion was there, and not a mean one. But Ayla's luck was running out, and she didn't know how much longer it would last until all her luck ran out.

Misty Dawn
Misty Dawn moved silently through the fast falling snow flakes. At last the weather she had been craving for had arrived. Moving like a ghost through this silent white world; she trotted; her ears pricked to wards Mare Lake. Snorting softly; she let his be carried away on the falling snow; she was well aware of her scent being taken away from her; and blown into the faces of any that stood in her path - but she worried not. Nor did she go to her usual trouble to hide her hoof prints.
She snorted once more; this time not in softness but in surprise as she almost totted straight into another equine. Stopping suddenly she slipped and fell almost comically to the ground. Standing up and quickly as she dared she shook herself; ridding her equally white hide from the snow that clung to her warm body.
The Arabian mare looked at Ayla for a moment. "Do forgive me; the snow can conceal much" she said politely.

Ayla jumped up, startled. She had been dozing and had not realized she was covered in snow! She looked up at the Arabian mare that had just trotted in. " Oh, Hello there. I did not see you. I am Ayla. I just came to Mare Lake. And who might you be?" Ayla looked at the pretty mare. Then out to the frost covered lake. There was at least a foot of snow on it! It was snowing very hard now. Ayla shivered, a big clump of snow falling of her bay, winter coat. She looked back up at the mare. A thought suddenly occured to her. This mare had just wandered into Mare Lake, apparently alone. Ayla was alone, searching for a companion until she found a stallion that might take her in. This mare might be her luck! But Ayla knew she couldn't get to excited. This mare might not be alone. Ayla asked hesitantly," Did you come here alone?" Ayla looked behind her to see if anyone had followed the Arabian mare. Ayla still did not know her name." Is anyone with you here?" she said again, hope slipping into her voice. This might be her chance, her one and only chance before her luck or time ran out.

ooc: is the white colour ok to read? bic: Misty Dawn
Misty Dawn looked at the mare for a moment; silently she waited for the mare to rid herself of the snow. "Indeed; I too am sorry; this snow if very thick and not easy to see through" she wondered who the mare might be. "My dubbth is Misty Dawn; I travel alone and my herd remains back at white Meadows as a part of a larger herd." she said pausing to take a breath - but instead of speaking once more she remained silent.
"it is in great greeting to meet you Ayla" she said softly; flicking her mane to one side from her eyes so she could focus more easily on the mare whom she was talking to.

ooc: yah it's great! really cool
Hello, Misty Dawn. Such a beautiful name! Yes, I am alone too. Maybe we could get together? I have been alone for weeks and all I want is to have some company. Even just one night I would love if you stayed. Do you have anywhere to go?" Ayla hoped with all her heart that the mare would say yes to staying at least one night. Even if Misty Dawn couldn't or wouldn't stay for a night it was so nice to just talk to somone for just a few seconds. It had been so long since she had talked to somone, she had lost count. She looked back across the lake. Now it was snowing harder than ever. Ayla wished it would stop so Misty Dawn and her could have some time to talk, or at least for another minute.

Misty Dawn
Misty Dawn snorted touching her nose to the other mare. "It would be a pleasure to spend time with you." she replied softly; but loud enough to have her voice carried over the sound to the slight wind. "It is safe enough to stay here; but you could always accompany me back to White Meadows; Cermak's Herd lives there; and Rowdy and I and our adoptive daughter live withing Cermaks herd." she said pausing to breath in deeply.

Ayla thought this offering over for a minute. She would love to be in a herd with a stallion, but would this stallion accept her? Ayla didn't know anything about this stallion, if he was strict or if he would be easy. " Well, Misty Dawn, that is a hard choice. I would love more than anything company, as you already know, but tell me: is this Cermak a good stallion? Or is he more of a pushy, pully, naggy stallion? It would be hard not to accept your offer, but I would sort of like to meet the stallion before I decide. Is it possible to go meet him?" Ayla was very excited. Hope was jumping to every part of her body. If her instincts trusted this stallion, then she may have a new home in as little as a day or two.

Misty Dawn
Of course she understood exactly what the mare thought. "of course Ayla; He is a wonderful stallion" she paused one moment; moving her head down to scratch her foreleg; ridding it of the new itchiness of melting snow dribbling down her body. She was a pure Arabian; her thin coat more suited to the warmer weathers; but this harsh environment bothered her none. Continuing in their conversation she picked up where she had left off. "Cermak; is dear to me, even if i am not part of his herd; he has allowed my family to live alongside him and his herd for some time. He would dearly love to meet you as he always enjoys meeting new equines to the area" she paused once more flicking her ears to see if there were any unusual sounds.... finding none she continued once more. "He would also understand if you wanted to leave and search for others." she said finally.

This sounded like heaven to Ayla. " Well, he definately sounds like a wonderful stallion. I wouldn't mind coming along to check him out. But you are not in his herd? I thought you were... Anyways, I would love to go see him. When are you going? Shall we go soon or wait a while?" Ayla tried to keep the excitement out of her voice, but it was very hard. She was finally going to a herd! And the stallion did sound really nice and understanding. Ayla said," Excuse me for a moment, if you will, Misty Dawn, but I would like a little water before it all freezes up." Ayla knew she could always catch the snow on her soft, pink tongue or eat it from the frozen ground, but who knows till the next river or lake they came upon that was not frozen or they could break through with their, sharp, black hooves. Ayla had always preferred fresh, running water compared to snow or rain water, falling from the sky or on the ground. The beautiful, bay Breton trotted gracefully over to the big lake. It was covered in a paper thin layer of ice. It looked as if someone had come and carefully placed a shiny white piece of glass on the lake. Ayla found a little spot that had not yet been frozen, for she didn't want to break the beautiful scene of the lake. She took a few sips, letting the cold, refreshing water drip down her dry, thirsty throat.
