Spirit walked in exhausted from her journey. She was a fairly odd mare with a mix of some exotic breeds, or so some would say, she seemed confident and independent while in reality she was scared. She may love being wild but she hated being all alone. She had grown up in a small herd, her father, her mother and her older sister she had loads of friends from other herds some were colts but mostly fillies that were a little bit like her, confident brave etc. and they all longed to travel outside their herd, not that their parents would let them, unlike her she no longer had a choice. She wasn't kicked out, no, she was forced out after her family tore apart going separate ways.
Spirits sister had found another stallion to love. Her father stuck with her Mother but she did too until they left her behind in a new land, this was years ago but it still came back to her in her sleep. She was fairly brazen, uptight and often argumentative, heck she still is !! After trying herd upon herd she has lost faith and has hopes to create her own herd, strictly for loner mares, like a bachelor herd only for mares. It was an idea she had often thought of on her journey...it was the only thing that kept her traveling to new lands. Although she did enjoy meeting new equines and making new friends too !!
She never really saw herself as a mother so her idea was really perfect for her in every way, and often for other mares too, I mean some might have had their hearts trampled on more than once, like her, and are sick of giving stallions just one last chance, those were the mares that would be welcomed into her herd. She noticed the name of this place and its purpose so she let out a call, "Any mares that are SICK of giving stallions one last chance please speak with me. I am here offering you a place with me, a fellow mare. All I ask for is company and a new start." she called out woefully. Then Spirit took in a deep breath and screamed out, "No stallion may claim me !!"
Spirits cries had taken too much energy out of her, so she collapsed. She found the energy to move into an comfortable position and eat the vegetation around her...it would have to do for now.

The trees surrounding Gathering Fountain were ablaze with glorious, fiery colors... scarlet, amber, gold. It was truly a beautiful sight to behold. The crisp autumn air smelled wonderfully, and yet strangely, of apples, although there were no apple trees surrounding Gathering Fountain.
But amidst all this glory and beauty, a very small dun mare was miserable. Miserable and confused and utterly frightened.
Love Lost had just arrived at Sunshine River that morning. There were bloody scrapes up and down her flank of where she hadn't exactly cleared the fence too well, where the splintering wood had scratched at her skin. The stinging pain seemed to ripple up and down her shivering body... it had not hurt at first. No, she'd had too much adrenaline then. But, she had escaped. She had done it. She had gotten away from those horrid humans, from their scheduled feeding times, from the leather contraptions they buckled onto her body.
And yet, she wondered how her parents would feel. They had been born captive and had been captive for all their lives... and although she had loved to see them again, she loathed how submissive they were to the humans and their torturous restrictions. She had grown up in a different way than they had, and although she loved them, she had to do what she had done, or else she would have gone mad, crammed in a stuffy stable for all her life like they did.
She wasn't even sure they would've approved of her running away from the humans. She remembered quite clearly when she was just a filly, her mother telling her to run away and never stop... but circumstances had been different. They were going to kill her, and a mother would do whatever she could for her child's life.
But they seemed to think that being in captivity was like living in luxury, and no doubt they would think that she'd had no reason to run away. But the very thought that they disapproved of her actions when she had only even been able to get to know them, and they her, for a few weeks, made her feel a bit sick.
They had another child as well, a submissive, spoiled little filly that she didn't like at all. It had been lovely to see them again, as she had never truly known them, but... but, had they not been her parents, she wouldn't have liked meeting them in the least.
But she stubbornly pushed such thoughts out of her head, although she wished she had not a moment later, for her thinking had drawn the pain away, and now it was back, and twice as potent as before.
Exhausted and miserable, she collapsed among the weeds, although it sent more shocks of pain through her body. But, her stout frame jerked as a strangled shout echoed through the air. Turning, she saw a pretty palomino that stood not far away from her, calling out such strange words. She knew not of herds and mares and stallions... she had lived all her life with a hermit in the forest, and thus had no idea what the mare was hollering about. But, she noticed that the other appeared as weary as she was, for the mare collapsed not long after she was done.

Spirit looked over to the mare not far from her. Blood drenched. Obviously captive bred, escape, fist full of anger held in her chest, heart full of pain...like me.. she thought to herself as she munched on some fairly green grass. She let out a nicker to her, shaking her head wildly, standing on her four hooves revealing her hidden strength. "Ello, what might be your name ??" she asked pointing her muzzle out to her.
Spirit took each step carefully and watched the silant mares body language. "Its a beautiful day today aint it." she said cheerfully with a kind smile. Spirit dashed a look around her, trying to spot an interest in her from stallions. None, thank the gods ! she thought to herself with a grin appearing on her maw.ooc: if ii think of more to add ii will modify it,, untill then improving advice is welcome

The dun found herself exhausted, and too tired to answer. Her human companion, the hermit that had comforted her and talked to her for so many years, had never tried to make small talk as such, had never cared about the weather, had never cared about names. But she wasn't very experienced in dealing with other horses, and she decided that now that she was in the wild with other mares, she might as well learn to get along with them.
However, for another few moments, the pony lay silent, surrounded by the drying grasses of autumn. "My name is Love Lost," she said softly to the palomino mare. She didn't reply to the mare's comment about the type of day... as far as she could tell, so long as she was away from the humans, every day was a fine day.

Spirit looked upon the amazingly timid dun. In every respect you could tell she was never born wild, lucky her ! "Interesting. Were you once captive ?? I only ask as...well...your strange behaviour." she said plainly. Once more her optics looked around her surroundings trying to pick out other mares that just might have heard her calling and for arrogant studs and lonely fillies cast away from herds or lost their families and even just to spot the odd measly cougar or animal that wishes to prey upon them, she is fairly weak afterall. "Why did you travel here, on a mission ?? might I be so nosey" she smiled sheepishly at Love Lost. She was interested and would obviously go to the claiming lands to gather more companions for her MARES ONLY herd.

[OOC: A mare claiming terra, that's a new one]
The small dun jerked slightly in surprise at the palomino's bluntness. Most horses she knew in her lifetime would've sought to be more... "tactful," as they put it. But the mare's cheerfulness and casualness was relaxing, and Love Lost decided on the spot that she might like her.
"I was born captive," she said softly, turning her eyes away, out over to where clear water rushed from the fountain. "I was born captive but I ran away, and then I was captured again... and I just ran away... again. Not long ago. This morning." She'd never had to speak about her history with the hermit... indeed, he hadn't cared about where she had been before, either. He hadn't cared about where she was born, or who her parents were... indeed, he cared only for her company, which was part of the reason she had loved him so much, as a brother and a friend. And suddenly, she pined for his comforting, gentle words again... she pined to be in their reclusive clearing in the woods, she pined for the smell of the half-falling-apart shack-like dwelling that she and the hermit and some other woodland animals had shared. She pined to be away from the cold, unforgiving, painful world, but she knew she never would again.

ooc: awsome idea or what !
Spirit looked over to little Love Lost. Her words pained her to say and you could tell just by looking at the dun. "Your lucky. I would have lov.... I would have liked being captive, I find humans intriguing ... more intriguing than the horses they keep companionship with." she paused for a moment giving the dun a cheery reassuring smile. "So what are you going to do now ?? I decided I would start a MARES ONLY herd, the boys get a bachelor herd so why shouldnt the girls ?!" she said sarcasticly giggling.
Spirit walked over to Love Lost and sided up to her. She seemed cold, and well Spirit was rather motherly... so she had been told by her old pals. Spirit stood by her side as still and sturdy as a rock, almost protecting her from the cruel world, she wasnt going to let any of her friendly mares ever go through what she went through with stallions... it was more cruel than what humans done to capture a horse of the wild !! It was buried within her past and always told others 'screw you!' if they asked about it or told her to talk about it.
Everything else of her past was like an open book, but her love life, that was a slammed-shut-open-it-and-die-go-screw-yourself book that she was angered to remember and equines never want to hear. Spirit shook her head and watched in the fountains boutiful water as her ice blonde mane shook from side to side also. "Would you want to join me. we dont have to be ground to a territory but travel around as a herd. safety. security. shelter. companionship. what more would a lone mare ask for !!" she said cheerfully smiling as she arched her neck, a beatifully chizzled arch.

[OOC: One of my mares, Cayla, would absolutely love to join Spirit's herd, because she's totally in contempt of mares being claimed by stallies xD Also, TP looks just about ready to join your herd as well... not sure about Lovey here, though]
The little dun snorted at the palomino's words. Yes, would you have liked to have every tiny little aspect of your life rigidly controlled, from what you eat to what time you sleep? Would you like to know that these intriguing creatures tried to kill me because I was too small? She could almost laugh at the thought. How very little did this mare know about what cruel, fickle creatures humans could be.
However, the pony's ears perked slightly at Spirit's next words. The thought of a mares-only herd intrigued her... the thought of living in a herd at all intrigued her as well. She had been wild before, but never around other horses... No, she knew very little about wild horse society. Some of the captive horses she had met talked about it, dreamed about it more like, but she never quite understood it.
"Mares only herd?" she said, confused, tilting her head to one side a bit. "I don't understand much about herds, my dear, but from what I can gather there is supposed to be a head stallion of each. So how should there be a herd of only mares?"

Spirit wandered toward the fountain to quench her thirst but swiftly returned so she could hear Love's question. Surely in the near future most places would have a MARES ONLY herd, its just the begining thats how bachelor herds started afterall. "not in a mares only herd, there shall be a lead mare... in fact that shall be the creator, me. No stallion will comand us. No longer outcasts from herds. No longer alone. No longer shall a mare be stuck to die in the harsh weather conditions. Like a stallions bachelor herd with exceptions, no fighting unless against predators, if a mare is to leave than that mare must tell the lead beforehand. Simple. Easy. Shall you join me ??" she said cheerfully at the idea once again. She smiled contemptedly with her small dun mare friend that stood by her side, she seemed conpletely puzzled by the concept of her idea... come to think of it ... did she even know what a bachelor herd was ?!OOC:: If they want to join her than just bring them into the thread. Is Faradera gonna' join ?? && L'eau too,, supose she follows Faradera so she would

[OOC: But we're only allowed to have one mare and one stally in each herd, remember? And I doubt there are going to be stallies in this one...
Anyways, I think I'm going to have Cayla come in, though]
The dun mare looked even more confused at Spirit's next words, and didn't keep silent about it.
"I'm sorry," she cut in rather shortly, "but I'm completely new to the concept of herds in general. I hardly know how a normal one works, much less an all-stallion or all-mare one!" Some of her old, sharp, bluntness was coming back, and she liked it. Perhaps talking to this lively palomino had refreshed her.
She began making wobbly attempts to stand, although she still felt feverish and shivery with stinging pain.

[OOC: bring her in the next post ] Spirit smiled with a creeping laugh joining up to her maw. The small dun was finally speaking up for herself, she felt like she was the spark that the mare needed so she smiled pleasingly to herself. "Then all you need to know is a herd is for protection, friendship, support and love. I think you could do with it in your case." she paused and reached out her muzzle to Love Lost as if to say 'look ! your easy prey without protection' looking at her with such worry. What would happen to her if she didn't have a herd ?! The very image that cropped up made her shudder in disgust. Once again she looked away checking for predators and studdish stallions, or complete stuck up charming idiotic STALLIONS !! OH ... she hated them more than words could say. Past experiances made her very distrusting of them, if only other mares knew then they would understand her hate for them. Of course she would never tell a mare without due corse only that she was torn into peices by them time and time again. They would most likely stop listening after the first tale of her first stallion, it was far too long and if shortened made no sense at all !! As Spirits bright twinkling optics surveyed the area around her she spotted another mare.... could she have heard her call ?! Was she even here to meet the fiesty firey flawless [she wished] one and only palomino Spirit ?? She would have to see ...

A stunningly beautiful champagne mare trotted in with the grace and elegance of a true show mare, although she had never really been in the show ring. In fact, this particular mare had never even seen a human... and had no desire to.
Dark, flashing eyes gazed rather haughtily about her. Cayla snorted in disgust and contempt at the mares being ushered this way and that by protective-looking stallions. In the warrior-like herd she had grown up in, mares had been of equal status to stallions. Gender and age didn't matter... only usefulness, and fighting ability. Cayla's parents were high-ranked, and all had had great expectations for her. She would have made a great warrior. She could have been the pride of her herd.
But she forced her mind away from the mysterious, troubling events that had brought her here. Cayla tended not to sit around weeping... in fact, she tended not to weep at all.
The Missouri Fox Trotter observed, with slight interest, a pair of mares talking nearby. They did not seem to be the gossipy, wimpy, stallion-claimed mare that was common around here... and it caught her eye. However, she continued to stay at a distance.
~~~~~~~~~~
The stout dun pony tilted her head slightly, first to one side, then the other. She had seen the hermit do this many times when regarding a curious concept, and she felt it was the right moment to do it now. Friendship, support, and love, eh? I got that from one human, why would I need a herd of horses for it? However, she supposed she would simply understand once she had been in the wild long enough.
However, at Spirit's next words, the Connemara sniffed a little, puffing up. Did she really look so terrible?
Well, think about it. You're bleeding, miserable, alone... I guess you could do with it. Love Lost sighed a bit.
"Maybe. Maybe I could. maybe I'll join you. I don't know."
Suddenly, out of the corner of her eye, she caught sight of a pretty mare who looked like she belonged in the show ring, doing some kind of fancy event. But they way she looked at those around her, Love Lost just had a feeling that she was wild. Simply a feeling.
When the mare caught sight of her and Spirit, but continued to hang back and merely watch, the dun became irritated after a bit.
"Do we amuse?" she snapped, a bit nastily.
Spirit smerked at the cute way Love Lost tilted her head. It made her giggle. At the sight of the champagne mare she smiled and let out a whine. "Chill Love. Shes only cautious" she snapped almost. Then the way she studied the mare further she relised that she was no captive bred but wild bred ! It confused her slightly, the way she moved with such precision and the way she looked in general made her seem captive show horse material but the way she snorted at the stallions around her and the cautious distance she kept between them made her sum up that she was once belonging to a herd, with high rank, she was now interested to know what had happened to her comfortable life ?? Then again many could ask Spirit the same, she would still tell them to go screw themselves... it was just so sensative of a subject for her. A call escaped to ward the mare onward "Are you here for the mare that wishes to set up a mares only herd ?? to get away from arrogant stallions, pain and the heartbreak that they come with ??" she asked with such well hidden bitterness. That was more energy taken from her, she nearly fainted. Her blinking slowed. Her heart pounded. Everything started to blur. But as she drew back a deep breath she felt as right as rein.
Trahi walked toward the Gathering Fountain in the new land. She saw stallions around so she stayed as far away from them as she could. She was releaved when she found comfort in a small group of mares. She had heard one of them talking about staying away from stallions and leaving them for good. She walked over to them and spoke. "Hello fellow mares. I am Trahi. I have heard that you dislike stallions also. What is it that you speak about a mares only herd?" Trahi was very interested in staying away from stallions. The only stallion that she had loved had beaten her and forcebred her.
She looked at her buldging stomach. She hated the father of the foal now, but she had once held him close to her heart. She would not make the foal suffer for its father's actions though. If it was a colt she would teach it to be good to mares and treat them right. If it was a filly she would keep it with her and teach it to stay away from stallions. She felt the fol give a hard kick and knew that it would not be long now. She had only a while until it would be spring and she would give birth to a foal. It would be a spirited foal of mostly mustang blood, but still with the beauty of an arabian, thanks to Trahi's mother. She smiled as she thought of the foal, but the smile faded as she thought of where her mother was and what the human had done to her and the other foals. Her smile faded away completely as she thought of her father and his fate that the human had brought to him.
Her once happy smile turned to a look of hate as she thought of the stupid stallion that she had once loved. The one that had 'loved' her. The one that she was perfect for. She was filled with anger at the stallion that had done this to her. She changed her expression of hate to a neutral expression as she thought of killing that stallion. Someone coming up to him and killing him so that he would harm no more.
The mare approached the two of them with raised eyebrows and a rather cold expression. "No, I was merely seeing if you were gossiping pansies or actual mares." She snorted derisively. "I'm glad to see that you are mostly the latter, however." Cayla turned to Spirit with a slightly skeptical expression.
"I don't know who either of you are, but I believe that the idea of an all-mares herd shouldn't be entirely unheard of. Mares can be self-sustaining... or at least, some of them are," Cayla snorted rather haughtily, shaking her creamy mane out of her dark eyes.
A pretty-looking, pregnant mare arrived, looking like she was ready for a chat with "new friends," and Cayla nearly felt nauseous. However, at the mare's next words, she raised one eyebrow.
If news that this all-mare herd was spreading, then surely more mares would be arriving. Perhaps I should join this herd that's coming along, she mused to herself.
~~~~~~~~~~
The dun pony eyed the two mares that had just arrived rather curiously. The champagne seemed rather haughty, and also rather unusual... but this newest mare, Trahi, seemed rather normal. And yet, although an expression of pure hate crossed her face, presumably at the very thought of stallions, she was also undoubtedly pregnant. Love Lost answered Trahi with little hesitation.
"It is waht you said. Spirit here is thinking of starting a herd of only mares."

LetTheFlamesBegin I was born for this !
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~-------------------------~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Spirit pricked her ears up at Trahi. "Well I am glade a mare thinks of stallions as do I. I am in the motion of creating the mare bachelor herd, only mares get to choose to join or not. Are you sure you have no stallion ??" she asked as she pointed out her muzzle to her buldging stomach. "Love Lost, my offer still stands." she spoke looking her seriously within her deep eyes. Then a harsh whip round to Cayla and she had a rather snobby snappy snooty face upon her maw, "Who was to say we would want you to join anyway?" she gave a judgeing glare to the champagne, looking her up and down. "I have been wild and away from stallions for years, but years of subclusion can eventually turn a mare rougue, and that is one thing I wish not to be ... now I am setting up this herd so that mares alike will not have to go through the loneliness, heartache and battle alone. They may join, share their stories, make friends, and slate off stallions together." she said seriously. Her brute eye caught glares of stallions so she charged around giving off furious snorts, whines and neighs.
As she slowed to a trot her heart had sunken, she wanted to be a mother so badly but now she can never be, unless she was forcebred it would never happen, and even being forcebred was highly unlikely too. Spirit was not a bossy mare but she liked to think of herself as a forceful authority rather than a bossy mare, which was what her friends always called her she had a nickname too a rather silly one and it was longer than her actual name, Spirit soul of the calling wind. Thats what she would like to have been known here, but she was nicknamed that for her traveling back and forth to each one of her old pals. Now she was staying put for once.
Standing her ground her pelt got colder, winter had arrived rather fast. The breathe of each mare was visable to the sturn gaze she held with her stature. It was a thing she found so beautiful when she could enjoy it, right now was one of those moments luckily. Everywhere she turned her gaze away from the group could see a peaceful blanket of pure white snow on the surface of the ground, it was purely stunning, but it came with freezing temperatures too. The sun had been completely taken from the sky due to the clouds lingering above them, at least now it was safe to look at the sun and not lose your sight. Beauty truely was in the eye of the beholder...
Trahi looked at Spirit as she motioned toward her buldging stomach. She looked her straight in the eyes. "If you are referign to my stomach, I had a stallion once, well I thought I had a stallion. Betrayal and anger got me here and like this. The stallion that I once loved became angry and deranged. He kicked me harshly and tore at my hide for weeks; no, months, then one day he just stopped. I thought that he had changed back to his old self, but then he forcebred me..." Trahi trailed off and then fell silent.
Trahi felt like crying, but she held her tears back for as long as she could. Finally she couldn't hold her tears back anymore and they rolled slowly down her dished face. She thought about how she had loved that stallion and then he just betrayed her. She stopped crying and decided to eat. She used her muzzle to move the light blanket of snow from the yellowing grass and started to graze.
[] soul of the calling wind !
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~-------------------------~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Spirit saw that it was one topic like her own 'screw-you-slammed-tightly-shut-not-saying-a-word-about-it!' one. She slowly creeped over to Trahi and apologised, "Sorry my dear, I have one of those stories too..." she heaved out a sigh before continueing "My first love had died in a battle, second try and he forcebred me although he knew I was not ready to settle down I had a miscarriage. Third try and I was betrayed, you see the stallion swore to me he had left a bachelor herd to travel with me turns out he was using me as an aliby to forcebreed other mares on our journey. It just gets better. Fourth go and I swore it would be the final time, I was happy for about three years with him I had no children and so he began to get frustrated with me so he kicked me out. Fifth time this stallion was older than me, one I thought I could trust, he grew cold bitter and twisted in his old age and lashed out at me ... needless to say I faught back, knocked him unconcious and kept running. Eventually my hate for stallions grew more and more when I relised that there were many more like me I thought that I should at least give them hope, so I began planning this herd. You may join me, but only if you want to, Trahi." she said sweetly.
Time was to join the other mares... what was their input going to be ??

We tried so hard to understand, but we can't We held the world out in our hands, and you ran away It takes a ton to let you go, and it shows
'cause all we know is falling, it falls And remember how, 'cause I know that we won't forget it all
Now we could follow you back home, but we won't Is this what you had waited for, just to be alone
It takes a ton to let you go, and it shows 'cause all we know is falling, it falls And remember how, 'cause I know that we won't forget it all

The champagne mare snorted, one eyebrow up. "Are you recruiting for this herd of yours or not? I was considering joining this herd, but," she snorted at the palomino, "if I'm going to get responses like that, I may as well leave." However, inside, Cayla was quickly softening up. It sickened her to know it, but she wanted to be with a herd. Ever since that terrible night, she'd lost everything, and had no idea how... she never wanted to think about the chance that they might have kicked her out, no, she kept her mind away from that. But it kept coming back, and even the fiercest warrior needs a place to be accepted. Ever-wandering and alone seems like a grim fate to any horse.
But that simply awful pride of hers didn't allow her to turn back, and the mare turned away from the group and began trotting, as the three mares began to talk amongst themselves. Oh, how she longed for such companionship... but, no, she could not, would not go back...
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The dun mare watched as the pretty champagne left with her brow creased. She thought that this mare would've liked to be in Spirit's herd... and yet...
After a moment, she shook the thought out of her head and began to listen to Trahi's and Spirit's stories. At the end, her mouth was slightly open, and her eyes wide, almost unable to believe the grief they'd been caused. Would stallions really do these things to mares? Perhaps she would be better off if she joined the kindly palomino's herd after all.
But now that she thought of it, were all stallions really like so? Maybe she should give them a chance. Maybe she should try her hand at joining a normal herd...
You never know until you try, she told herself wryly. Turning to the tearing mare, Love Lost nuzzled her comfortingly, and then turned to her spirited friend, and touched her nose to Spirit as well, as means of good-bye.
"I am sorry for both your losses," she said quietly, bowing her head to the two of them. "But I cannot think that all stallions are this way. I think I leave to join an everyday herd... but please, please tell me where you are once you have claimed, my dears. I would love to keep in contact with you."
Trahi looked at the mare that left and then at Love Lost. She nuzzled her gently and spoke softly. "Of course, not all stallions are like the ones Spirit and I have met, but enough of them are that I am going to avoid all of them. I hope that you have better luck with stallions then I have, but if you don't come and find us. You will always be able to find a freiend within me." Trahi nuzzled Love Lost goodbye and then looked to Spirit and spoke. "Spirit, I would like to join your herd, but I have one condition. You must let my foal stay, colt or filly. I will teach the colt to be different and hopefully improve the stallions of this world." Trahi looked at Spirit to see what she would say. If she did not agree to this then Trahi would be on her own.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~-------------------------~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The gracious palomino smiled at the short dun that so wanted to be normal, so wanted to give stallions a try, so had a adored friendship now formed with herself and the pregnant mare. "Good bye, I pray to the gods that you have better luck than I ever did." she bowed her head down heaving out a sigh. As she picked her head back up the champagne mare, Cayla, was obviously judging Spirit. No matter. "Yes I am. So will you join or not ??" she snorted then picking herself up to face Trahi smiling as she nodded, "Filly, she will be accepted. Colt, he shall be taught the ways of a kind attractive stallion ... not that of the monsters out there. Your foal shall have a place within this herd, safety shelter ." she said sweetly.
Spirit looked around her, Love Lost was heading afar to get 'claimed' while she was gathering more ma'ams for her herd. Just wait till the news got around !! Then she will not have to go on the search for mares but she would have to fight Stallions off, a mare beating a stallion, what were the chances of the mare ever coming out on top ?! The same amount of horses that survived world war one, 4 out of 150, and the results probly would be like world war one. Come on, heavy muscular stallion against a light sweet mare ... yeah something tells me that the results would be like a horse being shelled ... plenty of scares from battles with stallions.

The elegant mare froze at the palomino's words, frozen as still as ice in terrible indecision. The palomino's boldness bordered on impudence, and yet... and yet, she found the irresistible urge to be part of a herd where mares were not silly and meek, where her refusal to be claimed by a stallion would not be viewed as some freak oddity in her, like it was among the mares she had met so far here. It would cause heartbreak if she kept on this way, and yet, would she rather have her heart or her pride intact?
Turning, she said confidently, "You know what? I think I will. I will join you in this bachelorette herd of yours." The moment they were out of her mouth, the worries about losing face and almost every other worry she might have had disappeared, and she was glad she had said them.
Part of a herd at last. Cayla could do nothing but struggle to hide her enormous, bordering-on-goofy grin.

The pony heard the champagne mare speak, and merely smiled and nodded at her.
"Good luck," she said softly. "To all three of you. It is my hope you won't need it, but..." She drew a slow breath. From what she had learned so far about wild horse society, this idea would definitely not be widely accepted. Surely many stallions and more conventional-minded mares would oppose it, try to crush the still small and fragile herd's valiant efforts. But Love Lost told herself that Spirit would live up to her name, so she nuzzled the two mares near her one last time, nodded to the elegant champagne, and set off at a flowing canter towards Sunshine River.
