Mesteno galloped into Sunshine River. The scent of mares in heat drew him there. He tossed his dark mane as he galloped faster, his hooves barely brushing the ground. He flew across the terrain. He had just recently secured a territory in the Arabian Desert where he would live happily for he had come from a desert terrain. His ears were pricked forward as he listened for any sounds of a mare nearby, his nostrils testing the air.

A stout white mare with a well-rounded belly came into Sunshine River at a grudging trot, sunk deep in thought of recent events.
Rosemont had once been her stallion, but he mysteriously disappeared, striking a blow to her heart. He left nothing to say of where he had gone or when, or if, he would be coming back. All the mares in her herd had been devastated, and had assumed him gone for good.
But, right when they were to be accepted into a new herd, he came trumpeting back, acting like they were still his mares, and all up for a fight? It made Tulip Pegasus furious... especially when she was pregnant with the brute's son.
However, she thought it was time he realized she would never be his mare again. She thought it was high time she paid a visit to Sunshine River.

Mesteno spotted a pretty mare in the distance and whinnied softly to her. "Hello there my dear." He said calmly and softly. He then noticed that she was pregnant and almost gasped but stopped himself. What kind of a stallion would let a pregnant mare out of his sight let alone his herd. He waited for her reply before he said anything else. For he did not want to drive her away.

The stout white mare jumped as the stallion's soft voice reached her ears. Whirling around, her warm brown eyes narrowed immediately and suspiciously at this new figure. As of now, she was pretty much sick of stallions and their sweet words... however, she knew that it was only Rosemont she was sick of. It was only Rosemont she wanted to stop appearing in her dreams, it was he that she wanted to be able to stop thinking about, and even as she turned her eyes on this new stallion she saw him and it made her heart break for the millionth time.
Turning away with tears in her eyes, she murmured an incomprehensible reply, wondering if he would even continue to speak to her when he noticed that she was pregnant... pregnant with another stallion's foal.
However, after a moment she worked up the courage to say something understandable. "Good afternoon, sire," she said a bit stiffly.

Mesteno noticed that she had started to weep so he waited until she had regained her composure before he answered."My I inquire as to your name?" He asked gently as he took a few cautious steps towards her. He then stopped and waited for her answer before he said anything. He pricked his ears ready to catch her soft reply. He would let her think through her thoughts first.

The white mare shook the tears from her eyes stubbornly, turning warm brown irises onto the stallion before her.
"My name is Tulip Pegasus," she said after a moment of silence, in which she took a quick judgement of his character. He seemed kind... handsome, respectable. Of course, at the moment, she could not even think of joining another stallion's herd, and yet another thought came to her... she would have to eventually.... After all, it was too dangerous for her to without one, with predators on the loose.
"Dunno wot my mater and pater were thinking when they named me, really," she added randomly, keeping herself from sniffing. It was her old crack about her own name, which she thought quite ridiculous... Tulip had always used it to start a conversation.

Mesteno smiled comfortingly at Tulip Pegasus. "Dont worry my name is just as strange. I am Mesteno which means Mustang in Spanish. But I prefer being called Tengo. So see, we already have something in common." He said as he took a few more steps towards her. He tossed his dark mane out of his eyes so he could see her better. She was a very pretty and respectable mare. He liked her already but knew that something bad must have happened to her just recently for she was weeping for some reason.

The white mare shook her pale mane out of her eyes with a sniff and a small smile. "Good t'me yew then, Tengo," she said cheerfully, blinking resolutely. When was the last time a stallion had addressed her so kindly, so casually? And he wasn't spewing a bunch of romantic cadswallop like Rosemont had done when he first met her... she was older now, wiser now, and would have distrusted any stallion that had done so.
Thus, for the time being, she found herself breathing a bit of a sigh of relief. The stallion seemed responsible. Dependable. He didn't look like the type who would take off on a whim and leave all of his mares behind, like a certain stallion she knew...
Tulip Pegasus quickly tore her mind away from that. No, no, she would not think about him now. Rosemont was behind her, he was in the past, and he was going to stay there.
With new resolve to get to know this Mesteno, she said, in a lighter tone than before, "And wot's Spanish, now that I think on it? A territory or something?"
