Name: Warrior Age: 11 years Breed: Mustang Height: 15.1 hh Colour: Buckskin Eye Colour: Dark brown Gender: Stallion Markings: Old battle scars History: Warrior grew up on a distant desert plateau. These horses were tough as nails, born to survival, and relied on their instincts more so than most other horses. The stallions were tough, on themselves, their herds, and each other, in order to keep the bloodlines strong and to ensure survival. Warrior's sire was not one of the worst ones to be raised by; he put a lot of pressure on his sons and daughters, but he was also fair to them. It was tough love, and Warrior thrived. As a two year old, he was kicked out of his herd, and eventually joined a bachelor group. Every day consisted of sparring and taunting herd leaders, practice for the day when the young bachelors themselves would have the strength and wisdom to gather a harem of their own. And eventually, Warrior was successful: in his fifth year, he managed to claim a young mare who strayed away from her father's herd. They had two foals, both fillies, and though Warrior had trouble stealig any other mares, it was a happy little herd, or as happy as it could be in such an environment. Warrior turned seven years old. Life went on as usual. Then, the unthinkable happened; strangers came, odd horses with monsters on their backs. Humans. None of the plateau horses had seen or even heard of humans before; they were too isolated. The humans rounded up many of the herds, including Warrior's family. He was separated from them, and through a stroke of luck managed to evade the horsemen. Lurking in a little gully, he noticed another herd rush past, scattered by the chaos and confusion. Their stallion was distracted, so despite his fear, Warrior acted on his instincts, and stole one of the mares, hiding her in the gully until the horsemen were gone. The mare was Alanna; only two years old, but she was his. The plan was to continue life as before, despite the drop in numbers among the plateau horses after the roundup. But that plan failed. There was a plague; a disease which the strangers' horses were immune to, and could carry without harm, but the plateau horses succumbed immediately, dropping like flies. Warrior and Alanna quickly learned to avoid others, for fear of catching the disease, and to avoid the larger bodies of water as well, drinking only from the occasional puddle. It was in this way that they found Siberia. The mare was four years old, and her herd had been wiped out by the disease. She had managed to avoid catching it, but was now all alone. Warrior claimed her decisively; but she was so quiet that he didn't even learn her name until two weeks later. They decided they couldn't remain there. So, they found a path, a narrow trail leading off the plateau, and left to find a new way in the world. Out here, time passed, and life remained fairly stable again. But the herd was plagued by bad luck; eventually Alanna was old enough to breed, and they produced a colt. But after that, constant interruptions prevented them from breeding again for several years- horrible weather, scarce food, and plain old lack of success. Siberia had two foals; the first, a filly. The second, a colt, was killed by a cougar when it was three days old. When Warrior was ten years old, the little band happened to pass by another herd. He recognized one of the mares as a plateau horse, and promptly challenged for her. He won, and her yearling daughter came along as well. Since then, Phoenix and Ember have followed the herd. Phoenix was close to having a foal the spring after, but miscarried during the winter. Alanna's colt became old enough to leave the herd and did so; Siberia's filly was stolen by another stallion. All Warrior hopes for is that luck will change, and things will go right for the herd in the future. --------------------------------------- So far, they haven't. Weakened by the persistent nagging of a lonely bachelor after his mares, Warrior was not very fit when challenged by Ezio, and lost Ember. During that battle he sustained injuries which nearly led to his death in the winter; he drove Alanna and Siberia away, in the hopes that they at least would survive, even if he didn't. But somehow, Warrior made it through the harsh season, and alone and herdless, began trying to settle into this new bachelor life, however reluctantly it came about. ---------------------------------------- 12 years in July 2010. 13 years in Dec 2010. 14 years in June 2011. 15 years in Dec 2011. 16 years in June 2012. 17 years in Oct 2012. Name: Siberia Age: 9 years Breed: Mustang Height: 15.2 hh Colour: Grey (cremello) Eye Colour: Black Gender: Mare Markings: History: Siberia didn't speak much, even as a foal. She wasn't shy, not at all; just quiet. No one ever knew what she was thinking, and she liked it that way, even though it creeped others out. Despite her silence, she was quite a dominant mare, in that she never let herself be pushed around. And because of her size (she was larger and stockier than most other plateau horses) it was easy to punish those who got too cocky with her. She never tried to assert herself over others, merely reprimanded them physically for irritating her and intruding in her space. The herd soon learned that if they respected her, she was more than amiable. She just didn't chatter on about nothing. A couple bachelors tried to steal her when she was three, but she didn't like their attitude, and whalloped them with her massive hooves, even though her sire had decided not to bother fighting to keep her. Still, fate was determined to get her away from her herd; when the roundup happened, her herd escaped, but the plague wiped them out. It was Warrior who found her; he was somewhat older than those other bachelors, and not quite as irritating. When he drove her back to his other mare, she went along without protest. She actually ended up liking Warrior, though she never said so. But he was clearly uncertain of her, and left her alone; perhaps that was why she liked him. In any case, he eventually became bolder, and when she came into heat again she accepted his advances. Siberia gave birth to a lovely filly, and raised her well; eventually she had a colt as well, but it was killed by a predator when she happened to get distracted. She remains with the herd as long as they treat her right, and so far they have; she never smiles and never laughs, and doesn't say much either, but really she's quite happy. -------------------------- After wandering with the herd for some time, Siberia's life changed greatly. The harsh winter nearly killed the injured Warrior, and he drove off his remaining mares so that they would be able to survive more easily. Siberia and Alanna traveled to the river, where they were picked up by Cobra and taken back to his territory. ------------------------- 10 years in July 2010. 11 years in Dec 2010. 12 years in June 2011. 13 years in Dec 2011. 14 years in June 2012. 15 years in Oct 2012. Name: Alanna Age: 7 years Breed: Mustang Height: 15 hh Colour: Bay overo pinto Eye Colour: Brown Gender: Mare Markings: Blaze, four stockings, various white patches (see pic) History: Her mother had been stolen by the lead stallion while she was pregnant; he is not her sire. Nonetheless, Kairo (who incidentally is Serena's father) raised her like his own. Alanna was a bit of a loose cannon when she was young; always a tad more independent than the others. That is why, when the roundup happened, she strayed a little farther from the others of her fleeing herd, and was surprised when another stallion appeared out of nowhere and herded her off. At first she was frightened, but then she merely found the new one interesting and exciting. -read Warrior's history for the rest- When the other mares joined them, Alanna soon decided that she was lead mare. She couldn't technically boss Siberia around, but since Siberia accepted her leadership, everything was fine. Alanna only ever raised one foal, a colt who was chased off when he tried to steal Phoenix, but she hopes for others. If their streak of bad luck ever ends, that is. ----------------------- As with Siberia, Warrior drove Alanna off so that she would not perish in the snows with him. She too was claimed by Cobra at the river, and now lives in his herd. ---------------------- 8 years in July 2010. 9 years in Dec 2010. 10 years in June 2011. 11 years in Dec 2011. 12 years in June 2012. 13 years in Oct 2012. Name: Phoenix Age: 8 years Breed: Mustang Height: 15 hh Colour: Chestnut Eye Colour: Brown Gender: Mare Markings: Thin blaze History: Phoenix, like the others, grew up on the plateau; her herd was scattered by the roundup, and in her panic she somehow managed to find her way off the plateau without realizing it. She was three years old at the time, and while wandering these unfamiliar lands, was claimed by a stallion. He was a typical wild stallion, not from the plateau, but good enough for her. When she was five years old she had a foal, Ember. A year later, she and Ember were found and stolen by Warrior. She wasn't too upset; after the initial process of getting used to a new herd, she settled right in. It was perfectly natural to be stolen by different stallions, and she was raised on the plateau, where whining about it was just considered ridiculous. Warrior bred her, but she miscarried when the winter became too harsh. --------------------------- Phoenix was stolen from Warrior by Kampion, and traveled with the new stallion for some time. However, he was drastically injured in another battle, and while he was still weak, she was stolen by Legend, though she never learned his name. He left her after covering her, and the sorrel mare was found by Cobra. Reunited with Siberia and Alanna in his territory, she gave birth to Legend's foal the following spring and named the filly Dune. --------------------------- 9 years in July 2010. 10 years in Dec 2010. 11 years in June 2011. 12 years in Dec 2011. 13 years in June 2012. 14 years in Oct 2012. Name: Ember Age: 3 years Breed: Mustang Height: 14.3 hh Colour: Blood bay Eye Colour: Soft brown Gender: Mare Markings: n/a History: Ember's mother, Phoenix, came from the plateau; but Ember herself has never been there. After the roundup and the following plague, Phoenix had fled the plateau and been claimed by a Mustang stallion of different lineage. The resulting foal was Ember; she played happily with the other foals in the herd, and was treated just like any other foal, but it was clear that she hailed from different stock. Her build was different; not greatly, and not as much as her mother differed from the other mares, but it still marked her as a plateau horse, born for survival in the harsh windy desert. Luckily, Ember has never had to experience such lands, growing up in lush fields. When Ember was a yearling, another stallion happened to pass by the herd with his mares while her own herd was drinking at a watering hole. Her sire and the stranger sized each other up, but managed to maintain a truce without actually exchanging words, letting both herds drink without trying to steal mares from each other. Until the stranger saw Phoenix. It was then that Ember realized that the stranger, whose name was Warrior, had the same body type as her mother; he must have come from the plateau which she often spoke of. There was a brief battle, but Warrior managed to herd Phoenix away without an extraordinary amount of trouble. Ember followed, nervous when her mother was stolen away. She quickly settled in with the new herd, though. That was life, especially for a mare, changing herds as stronger stallions took over. It didn't bother Phoenix, and it didn't bother Ember either. Warrior was a kind stallion, and his other mares were nice enough, so long as she behaved. An ordinary herd, to put it briefly. ------------------------------------ While grazing at Sunshine River as a three year old, something unexpected but inevitable happened; a stallion tried to steal Warrior's mares. Or rather, one mare: Ember. Warrior was injured, and the stallion, Ezio, managed to get her away. For the first time, Ember was away from her mother, but she wsn't too afraid. She soon settled into her new life, and became pregnant with Ezio's foal. ---------------------------- 4 years in July 2010. 5 years in Dec 2010. 6 years in June 2011. 7 years in Dec 2011. 8 years in June 2012. 9 years in Oct 2012.
