Though his mother was distraught over the disappearance of her first daughter, his intense energy and mischief-making was plenty to keep the herd on their toes. The colt tends to run on instinct more than on reason, which made him quite a handful. Zodiac was born into a world of fear and chaos, and learned to stay as far away from stallions as possible. Soon, his mother took in the orphaned filly Peril, and Zodiac grew very close to his new sister, having no other foal to play with. Pharaoh and her friend Heimri, another captive, protected the two foals as best they could. When Zodiac was a yearling, his sister Mosaic was born, the product of a forcebreeding. Despite this, he loved his new sister; she was so sweet and innocent, and he did his best to keep her safe. But he realized that, sooner or later, they would all be killed- and he, being a colt coming up on two years of age, would be first in line. Together, Zodiac and Peril escaped, to find help. Nina was born into the herd of Cryptic, after her foolish mother joined the dark stallion. She is not his daughter though, for which she is quite thankful; though Fala lacks intelligent, Nina does not, and could see that this was a bad place to be. She managed to stay out of the way and keep to herself until she turned two, at which point she decided enough was enough. The filly soon convinced her mother that they had to leave, so the pair snuck off as soon as the opportunity presented itself.
They were found by a group of horses titled the Roan Brothers, and resided with them for some time, during which Nina's half-brother Slade was born.
