Name: Fala
Breed: brumby
Colour: buckskin (Ee/Aa/nCr)
Height: 14.2 hh
Age: 2
Gender: female
Markings: n/a
Personality: Can be a little bit shallow at times. Oh, who am I kidding? she is a total FLAKE, her brain is scattered across the galaxy, somewhat clueless, needs a reality check. Then again, wisdom can sprout from her mouth at any moment. Easily hurt, never sees the blows coming. Has this obsession with handsome stallions, cannot resist them. Very easy to pity, because she never understands how she gets into the trouble she gets into.
History: She grew up in a typical wild herd, your typical little brumby foal. Nothing really important happened, until one spring, her third when she had just turned two, took a fateful turn.
The herd had migrated to a watering hole, the only one around for miles. Many other herds were here too: herd stallions keeping an eye on each other, young bachelors alternating between rolling in mud and throwing secret glances at mares, foals splashing in the shallows.
There was one stallion there, a nondescript brown horse with giant locks of mane. He was getting on in years, with seventeen summers under his belt. He used to be a prosperous stallion, with a large herd, but as age began to catch up, so did bachelors, and his mares were picked apart by younger studs until none were left. With no hope for establishing a new herd, he was forced to live alone. Now, our young lady was in her first heat, and it opened up whole new worlds. Stallions! Who ever thought that Mother Nature would create such fascinating things? But she obediently stayed near her father, until the old gentleman was fixed within her gaze, and she could not let go. As though sensing her stare, he looked up, and for a moment they just exchanged looks.
Her mind was in a whirl. He was perfect. So handsome, so strong, so stoic, so everything. She wanted him, badly.
His mind was less tumbled. More along the lines of: Why on earth is she staring at me? Then, She's pretty though.
The instant her father looked away, Fala took several tentative, dreamy steps forward, towards the stranger. It was then that he saw the faraway gaze in her eyes, and understood. The mare, hardly more than a filly, was utterly in love. Now, he was a kind soul at the most basic level, but first and foremost he was a stallion. Over the past three years, when his herd began falling apart, none of his colts and few fillies survived the roguish bachelors. As happens with foals, many had died of heatstroke, lightning, floods, starvation, thirst, predators, etc etc etc. Others were caught by humans. the result was, that though his bloodline did run n the wild herds, it was very weak. This did not sit well in the old horse's mind. And he had no idea how to solve this problem, until now. All of a sudden, here was a mare in heat, who was so obsessive over him that if he told her to jump off a cliff she'd only stop to ask at what time she should do it. It was a pretty 'duh' thing.
Well, Fala's father looked up and saw her sneaking off, and she was promptly brought back. Not five minutes later, she returned to the older stud, this time getting right up next to him. They took in each others scents, her practically euphoric, him interested in getting business done. He flirted with her a bit, reeling her in softly like a fisherman would a tricky catch. And then, with a backward glance at her father, Fala gave a lovestruck sigh to her object of adoration, and he mounted her swiftly. Like I said before, he basically had a good heart, and understood that her being so young, and easily frightened, and it being her first time, he was exceedingly careful, giving her reassuring nickers. Still, it was quite painful, and she squealed before she could stop herself. Again, her father looked up and drove the old horse off, but the brown stud was satisfied. There had been enough time for him to get what he wanted, and that was fine.
Well, as you can imagine, Fala soon turned out to be pregnant. Her father figured that it was ridiculous for his own grandchildren to be foaled within the herd, so she was driven out. Fala didn't really understand; she only had a vague idea that she was pregnant, and that the brown stud was the father, and it never really sunk in. She was too young, both emotionally and physically, to be bearing a foal, and being alone was the last straw. For a week, she cried hysterically. Then, the fog cleared and she decided that only one thing was going to work- find the sire of her foal. No doubt he would love to see her again. Curse her father for breaking them apart, when they were so clearly meant to be together!
Well, like I said, the old stud was old. And when she finally found him, a young bachelor was tagging after her. The brown stallion could not be bothered to risk his health by fighting for her. She was abandoned to the other stallion, who luckily understood her predicament and left her alone. Needless to say, she was only slightly upset when she found her former idol's body on top of a hill three months later, sizzled by lightning.
Now, she's alone, pregnant, and distraught. Life's been mean to Fala. Let's hope she finds a friend.
