There once was a tale – A tale of a huge black stallion who roamed for miles upon miles searching for something that was to unlock his heart. According to the tale, He happened upon a river, gushing down the small valley, the wild sun burning in the sky, reflecting in the fresh spring water that had traveled as far as the mystery stallion had.
He had spent the night besides the river, eating and drinking, sleeping only when he felt tired in case a predator or a rival stallion descended on him, and wished to kill him. When the first light of day reached its height in the sky, it cast no shadows in the small valleys. The stallion decided that if he were to stay here, or even leave by the next sunlight, that it should be named Sunshine River. He explored the surrounding area, finding enough room that was unoccupied to hold many large herds and some communal areas, where there may be the chance for young colts to group after leaving the herd.
Something in him made him stay just for that extra night and that was the night it happened – He was sleeping soundly in a safe haven, finding a small glade surrounded by rock in which he was camouflaged. He had found no trace of any other equine being here for a good few years. With the full moon glowing brightly, a large twig snapped under foot. The stallion awoke suddenly, but soundlessly. He cast his eyes over the grounds to where the noise had arisen from. There he saw – that which was to be the key to unlock his heart. A tall, elegant, chestnut mare stood in the full moonlight, in all her beauty.
The black stallion scrambled to his feet and went to greet the mare, he found out that she had been living there for many summers alone. They spent the rest of their days together; they produced only one foal – a colt - who was captured a summer after he was born, the same summer that both the mystery mare and stallion died.
Now as rumor has it, he escaped capture and has now returned to his homeland – to find the bones and memories of his dam and sire. Will he find them? Will he stay at Sunshine River just as the traveling black stallion did so many summers ago? Will he too find a mate and live happily?
Now many new horses have left their family herds in search of the place named Sunshine River. They too want to leave their hoof prints in the sand………
