I walked into this place, so full of love and emotion. It felt strange, to feel such a feeling hit my heart. I, being one to never experience such tender emotions, felt lonelier than ever. I had not traveled far to reach this land; but I was quite thirsty and bent my kisser into the water to drink. I lifted my head, muzzle dripping, and looked around with my chocolate orbs. Nothing exciting was going on, so I dropped my head to graze.

A handsome streak of black flew into Sunshine River at a steady gallop. Black Magic had been to this place before... it had been a place of love and heartbreak, equally both for him. After his newly claimed lead mare, Naz, had seemingly abandoned him, he'd decided that enough was enough. Although he still flirted outrageously, the young stallion had decided that he would never again take a mare too close to heart. In the horror stories he'd always heard, it was of mares being abandoned by stallions, heartbroken and alone. Who would've thought that it would ever happen in reverse order?
The stallion was here today to drink, he told himself firmly. Nothing more. Claiming grounds were no longer his grounds. He refused to let them be. After all, it was an unusually warm spring day.. summer was coming on quickly, one could tell. stopping for a drink was a completely plausible excuse.

OOC: I'm not going to do her perspective anymore. Too boring.
Aiyana's head flew up. Hoofbeats and a flash of onyx darted towards the river, and at last a black stag stood. Almost like magic, really. She wondered what his name was, and if she should approach. Aiyana was good at analyzing emotions on a fellow's face, and so she had decided that this was a detirmined stallion, hiding a heartbreak of some sort. This sank her hopes a little, but she was detirmined to be friendly.
She let out a whinny, parting her kissers to emit the greeting. Why he was here was no buisness of hers, but she was lonely and perhaps this stag could provide some company, maybe an aquaintance to talk to. Aiyana stopped feet away, near the bank of the cheery river. She turned to look at it for a moment, but she wasn't thirsty and so she directed her attention back to the ebony stag. "My name's Aiyana," she said brightly.

The sleek black horse turned suddenly, his handsome, dark gaze sharpening as it caught sight of the mare who had spoken. A pretty one, isn't she? he mused to himself. I wonder what she's going out here all alone? Dangerous times, aren't these... No doubt, such a pretty mare should be claimed, taken somewhere safe... However, he cut off his thoughts right there and then. His fantasy would go no farther.
Bowing his head cordially, he called back in his warm, regal manner, "Aiyana. A truly charming name, if I may say so, milady. My own name is Black Magic." Magic smiled charmingly at the mare, while firmly reminding himself to not take this too far.

"I knew your name was Black Magic!" she said excitedly. Well, she hadn't exactly known but she'd predicted correctly. And he'd aknowldged her name. "It means blossom in Cherokee," Aiyana replied proudly - she couldn't resist telling him so. Her dark green orbs twinkled happily. "So, Mr. Magic. What brings you here?" Aiyana had been desperately lonely and come here to end her troubles, but she'd wait her turn. Or maybe Magic didn't want to tell about his past. He certainly didn't act like it.

The handsome stallion couldn't help but laugh at the exuberant mare. "No need to call me Mr. Magic," he told her in a falsely stern tone. "It makes me feel like my father." Of course, he couldn't help flinching inwardly at the thought. The entire reason he'd come to Sunshine River in the first place, the site of his first love and his first heartbreak, was to track down his father, who'd abandoned him and his herd, when Black Magic was only a yearling. Years had worn the memory of this paternal figure out of his mind, but he still remembered how stern and emotionless and stonelike his father had been... he'd been a stallion who lived for respect, for duty. Not long before Magic's father left them, the young colt had vowed, just to himself, that he'd never become like that in his old years. He still remembered that vow... he'd kept to it, as well. Of course, that meant he was of slightly weaker moral fiber, which had allowed his to run away from his family and desert his duties much like his father had done before him... However, he quickly cast that thought away. No, in this new place, he refused to think about the past. That was what he decided. And that was also waht lead him to smoothly deflect the cheerful mare's question.
"I would not trouble myself with such thoughts, milady," he told her with a slightly mischievous grin.

Aiyana's right eye lifted up further. "Oh, so it's a secret then?" She smiled a little bit. She'd never held any secrets before, none important or exciting ones anyway. Then they weren't secrets, right? The silvery dun blinked her pools of deep emerald. His mind was practically churning before her eyes. Was he thinking about his past or concealing it? Both, it seemed. Where was her sister? Her brothers? Her parents? Still back at the waterfront forest? She'd never know now, she thought sadly. That brought her mind back to the time she'd gotten lost with her sister during the winter, and been very malnourished and starving during the rain and lack of food. She'd gotten thrush, and for the three weeks they'd wandered she'd had to endure it. If it hadn't been for her older sister, who had been three at the time, she would have died. Aiyana shuddered, focousing back on the onyx stag. "So could I call you Magic then?"

The dark-coated stallion grinned, and said lightly, "Why, of course... that's what everyone calls me." For a moment, the young stud turned as if to look out over the horizon, over the mare's head. However, out of her corner of his dark, twinkling eye, he watched the dun's swift, graceful movements unabashedly. This Aiyana really was something to look at... a long, flowing mane, a gleaming coat. he knew he would not claim her... but he did not hesitate to admire her.
"I wonder... do you have a herd already?" The seemingly casual question popped out before he could stop it. Automatically, Black Magic wished he hadn't asked, but nonetheless turned to face the mare, eying her curiously.

"If I had a herd, would I be here?" The mare paused. "No, but I'd love companionship." She'd only been in her small but growing family band until she'd come of age and left it behind. Maybe Magic had a bunch, but he seemed awfully out of it if he did. "Do you have one, Magic?" Her silvery grullo coat glimmered in the bright sun. She tossed an ebony tassle from her pools of emerald, glancing back at the black stag.

The handsome stallion laughed lightly, although his heart was pounding. If he was going to claim a mare, now would be his chance.
"No, no, I'm a loner as much as you," he said easily. Considering how anxious he had suddenly become, he was surprised at how smooth his voice sounded. You're not doing that again. Not to just get abandoned.
"But I'd love some companionship as much as the next horse." Black Magic cursed himself silently. Always had to be the lady's horse, didn't he?

Aiyana shook her black mane and laughed to herself. She looked up and blinked at the watercourse. The sweltering heat made her want to dive into it, but she resisted. Magic, after all, must feel worse with his black coat. Her emerald pools sparkled in the bright sunlight. "Things aren't as hard with another as they are alone," she noted. She pawed the ground with a slate front hoof. Aiyana wasn't one to stand still long. "Surely you've had companionship in the past?"

The stallion's once-warm eyes hardened, almost imperceptibly. "I... you could call her a companion, I suppose." Or you could call her a first love. The young stud still remembered her charming eyes, her gleaming coat. Although she'd only been a pony, and fairly smaller than he was, she was one of the most beautiful, vivacious mares he'd ever met. And yet...
"She left." His eyes scanned the horizon, his voice flat and emotionless. "I suppose she wanted to move on... she simply left one day." After a few moments, he finally sighed and shook out his dark mane.
"But that's behind me now," he said warmly, turning his eyes back on Aiyana.

Oh, I'm sorry she said apologetically. Softly she touched his neck with her ebon muzzle for an attempt of comfort. She'd never really had trouble with another horse of the opposite gender. There had been the time she got lost in a canyon with her older sister in the winter. That had been awful. They'd nearly starved to death and her hoof got infected. Luckily they reunited with their family band just in time. At least her sister had taken care of her.
Aiyana pulled her muzzle back from his onyx boa. A smile pulled at the edge of her charcoal kissers. My name means Blossom in Cherokee.... what does yours mean?
