The bright chestnut mare *coughfiredancercough* trotted slowly, absent-mindedly, towards the river. It had rained since her last visit, and was trickling along nicely. But soon it would be frozen, caught in winter's icy grip, and it would be cold. Her coat was long and thick, and she was well-prepared for the coming hardships. Her muzzle lowered easily to the water, and she sipped some quietly. She wasn't really thirsty, but it was something to do while she thought about nothing. Intense boredom had begun to settle upon her lately, and this little excursion would hopefully relieve the ennui. She raised her head, freezing droplets dripping from her whiskers, and stared off into the distance. Life was so different. Some parts she liked, but she missed her old innocence.

The cherry bay stud wandered into the river terra. Hoofbeats were rhythmic, padding softly in the fresh sheet of snow. Head hung low, the sharp coldness piercing his skin, accustomed to the heat. A raggedy coat now encased the stallion, keeping him half-warm. Feuer sighed. He hadn't seen his love in what seemed years. She had vanished. Like the summer. He didn't see the reddish mare. His footsteps continued, caring him into the mare, legs becoming tangled up with hers. He crashed onto the snowy ground, an unknown pressure on top of him.

In surprise, Firedancer darted back up to her feet. What on earth had knocked into her? Glancing back down, she spotted the source of the trouble. A stallion, apparently incapable of watching where he was going. Now, Firedancer wasn't necessarily the rude type. "Outspoken" is a better term. Either way, she wasn't afraid of speaking her mind and never sugar-coated anything. So she felt perfectly within her bounds when she snorted, "Daydreaming, are we? Well, I suggest keeping your eyes open next time. You could hurt somebody." She tossed her chestnut mane, eyes flashing. Of course, she had come here for a bit of adventure, so she couldn't really blame herself. And she wasn't worried for her own safety, much, nor that of certain others, whom she had quite forgotten. This could turn out terribly if luck went against her, but for now nothing too horrible done.

The pressure relieved itself, and the stallion twisted and turned in the cold, white powder. He rose, before shaking himself off, to rid of the awful cold sleet. Nostrils snorted, a foot stamped. The lonlieness combined with the terrible snow put him in a bad temper. The poor stallion was overwhelmed, not having seen another equine in some time. Somehow, depressed, he barely spoke. Just thought. His lead hadn't been near him in what seemed donkey's years, and hewas left wondering what he had done to make her dissapear. "Well excuse me for living in a free world! Maybe you should stayout of harm's way in the future!" Feuer tossed his head, agrivated. Sadly, it wasn't the mare's fault that her was taking his anger out on her.

Firedancer's eyes narrowed. "You expect the entire world to jump out of your way as soon as you come blundering along disturbing the peace?" She laughed, and then with mocking eyes, bowed and pranced about, taunting, "Oh yes, I am so sorry for standing your way, great king. I really do apologize, forgive me O Hurried One." She tossed her mane defiantly. Stupid stallion; to think that the world revolved around him and that he should be expected to always get his way. It reminded her of another stud whom she had refused to join in the end, preferring instead to follow the one who treated her and others with respect.

Feuer snorted once more. The "discussion" was turning into a mini-war every moment they continued volleying abuse at each other. He snarled. "And what does that make you? A blundering "figjam" who can't find a stallion to settle down with? Oh yes, I forgot!" He smiled, taunting her. "No stallion in the right mind WANTS to settle down with you!" He cackled, pretty much losing it. He was hardly breathing now, he was panting so hard. and of course, she has no idea of what a figjam is, does she? Stupid mare... The bloody stallion pranced on his daggers, awaiting her response.

A cunning smile curled around her face. "I was simply standing here, minding my own business. It's you who blunders." Firedancer's smile grew even wider. "And as for stallion, well, I am quite happily settled down with the love of my life. And in spring I'll give birth to his foal. But you, my dear adversary, seem to be having trouble finding mares. And I think I can understand why." She laughed musically. Her hooves skimmed lightly across the grass as she taunted him. Take that.

He chased after her, ears laid flat against his cranium. He performed a half-rear, nothing to hurt the mare, just to scare her. He was fuming, now. The mare had set off a ticking time bomb. "And you were here in the first place because?" A snarl followed by a short snort let him continue. "That's right, because no stallion will take you in!" Feuer began to laugh harder, executing small half-rears every minute or two. "What love of your life? What stallion could possibly love a mare like yourself? Who?" He swerved in and out, bucking occasionally. Stupid mare. Look what she has set off...

Undaunted, Firedancer pinned her ears right back at him, "One twice as fine as you could ever even dream of being," she spat, "Patriot, one of the first to come here. And as for why I am here? Let's say it is in my nature to wander. He respects that and allows me to stray on occasion. But you I suppose would know very little of what respect is, would you?" She bucked, eyes flashing, and pawed the air. She was by no means a weak, feeble little mare, content to be harrassed by rude stallions. No, she was Firedancer, the one who did exactly as she pleased and took orders from no one. What did it matter that she was bottom of the pecking order in the herd? It was probably for the best...

He snorted, remembering the day that Patriot had let Oceana come live with him. He sighed, it would've taken allot to do that. He was really a good stallion, deep down. Feuer raised his head, anger wearing off. He sighed. "Mare, I am leaving. I have no interest whatsoever in a sniveling prune like yourself. Goodbye." The blood stallion turned and shuffled through the snow, ashamed of his behavior. He just wished that his lead would return. Why had she left him? Did she not love him anymore? What had he done? The stallion was a confused train wreck, down in the depths of depression. And not willing to come out.

Firedancer stood still, narrowing her eyes, scrutinizing him. "Sniveling prune, my word!" she muttered to herself. She watched him go, observing his movement. Her breath fogged in front of her, winter making itself known. Then, just as he was about to pass out of sight, she called out, "Don't be down. It helps nothing. Take a vacation. It works." the slump of his shoulders, the pointless look in his eyes. Depression. Something she had been suffering back at the home herd, and had come here to relieve. It did help; and some things just needed to be gotten over with.

He was prepared to move on, to go suffer in silence. The winter, loneliness and life itself was taking a gigantic toll on the stallion. Once he was happy, life full and bountiful. Now? He was a wreck, an accident waiting to happen. Feuer trudged on through the snow, blank mind and broken heart. Then, a call from the distance. Or was it? Was he just imagining things? No, there it is, again. The blood stallion turned to listen to the voice. A vacation? He sighed, before trudging back to the mare. "And what is there to be happy about? My lead has taken off, my adopted fillies and to top things off, winter has set in. Hmm? What is there exactly to be happy about?" Once sparking eyes were dull, lifeless pools. What had life done to him?

"After winter, comes spring," she said simply. "After the night, comes the new dawn." Firedancer was only vaguely surprised at her words; while she generally did not behave as one with wisdom, she was quite intelligent and understood much of what made equines tick. She shifted in place a bit, and elaborated, "Life goes on. New happiness will find you. Misfortune is just a part of life that you can't escape- it is the price we pay for all the joys. Trust me. I know." And she did. She had been a happy foal, with happy owners and in a happy herd with the humans, before some tragedy had struck. The horror had been so great, that combined with some knock to the head she had forgotten it. She was only aware that something bad had happened that caused the sale of her and the others, and for a while it had upset her, rending her to the core. And now? Why, she was a happy mare, overall. Sure, there were things you didn't like in life, but moping did nothing.
ooc: this is pathetic of me to write this, because Firedancer is preaching against the exact thing I do- wallow in my misery. lol.

His lean sides heaved a pathetic sigh. Lifeless eyes gazed over the mare, belonging to Patriot. A dull voice protruded, no life amongst it. "And what if spring doesn't come? It doesn't always come to those fortunate enough, it often leaves others in winter-forever..." Feuer raised a hind leg from the wet snow. He was wallowing in the pits of depression, barely sane. Questions whizzed around his mind. Why did she leave me? What did I do? What didn't I do? Will she ever come back? Does she truly love me? He battered an eyelid. "What if you made a promise to someone, and the being you kept the promise for ran off on you?" The stallion silenced himself.

Firedancer chewed on her lip for a moment. She guessed more at the truth than he had told her. Clearly, he was sick with love, and devastated by some sort of rejection. "Winter does not last forever, unless you believe it does. Even those who never see spring here on the mortal plane, will see it in whatever comes next. And those they leave behind often forget that, blinded with their own grief. But we always join them, in the end. And those who die in spring lament never seeing another winter. Nothing is perfect until you accept the world as being perfect the way it is." The chestnut mare's bright, lively eyes stood in such sharp contrast to his, and it struck a vibe within her. She could be hot-headed, but she was also deeply concerned with the welfare of others, and she hated his defeated outlook. "And be consoled that you at least stayed bound by your oath, and did not brush her off. They are not the only form that happiness can come in." She fell silent again, as she mulled things over a little more. At last, a little louder, she added, "And you are a wild stallion, magnificent and capable of great things. But you are only as free as you allow yourself to be. By refusing to throw off the chains of your sadness, you are denying yourself the ability to truly live. Master yourself. Then you'll see things in a new light."

The words meant little to the stallion, yet somehow, deep inside of him, they ignited a tiny spark. Tiny. But still, a tiny amount of improvement was better than none. He stood, focusing on the chestnut mare. He felt like he was seeing for the first time, a little bit at a time. But still, he had broken his heart when he held hers so close to his. And when she had left? Well, his heart had shriveled up like an old prune. Quite sad, really. But that's what love does one. A wild stallion? Geez, she was harping aloud on this one. "A wild stallion? Mare, I am nothing but a 2 year old stud with no idea of the bounds of life. God knows why I chose this place to come live in. All it's bought me is sadness and pain."

Her voice raised a little louder, and grew firm. "You are a stallion. You are not captive. I think that makes you a wild stallion. And listen to yourself! You are wallowing like a pig in mud. Don't you realize? It's not this place- it's the actions of others and your unwillingness to let go of your misery that is causing this." Firedancer swished her tail passionately. "Besides. If she left you, then you deserve better. Pull yourself together, and move on. It will give you more relief than this self-pity." She stepped up beside him and gave his muzzle a little push. "Accept the truth that life both hurts and heals. Then move on."

The words fell upon his hears once more, stroking the eternal flame a little bit at a time. Just a bit. He shuffled his daggers in the snow, listening to her passionate speech. "Well a pig in the mud I am. How could I deserve better? I was the one who let her slip away from beneath my eyes! Life hurts and heals? Of course it does, but I can't move on. Life is not for me, I don't need it or deserve it. Life would be better off without me. How does one move on from that?" He hung his head low, depression taking it's toll. Feuer felt the push on his muzzle, but ignored it. Life, the world would be better off without him. Everyone would. After all, she was the one who had taken of from him. What more evidence did one want?

His little spiel brought only an angry outburst from her. "Again, listen to yourself speak! The world cares not if you live or die; the world wouldn't mind if anyone lived or died. Such is the world. But you care whether you live or die. And you are like all creatures- you have an innate desire to struggle onward with life. This self-pity of yours will get you nowhere. You're the only one who can decide whether to live or to die. And if you wish to die now, I call you a weak coward. For only such a one would want to flee from trials in life, instead of facing them. You did not strike me as a weak coward earlier, and still don't. But if you persist in this ridiculous insanity, I may have to change my mind." Firedancer's ears flattened. "Now you need to make your choice. Be brave, or be a failure. You have done nothing wrong." He seemed trapped in the hole of believing it was his fault. Clearly, it wasn't, but he needed to realize that before he could make the next step.

While this confrontation was going on,Lleyni watched from a little ways away. She hadn't seen either horse until she heard the thunk of them falling. She had watched and listened to them since. Neither realized she was there. She knew she shouldn't be there, but....she was a curious animal. It seemed that the chestnut mare was yelling at the cherry bay male. 'I wonder what they're telling about?' Lleyni thought to herself. She didn't know what to do. Walk up to them? Maybe not. Watch? If they saw her, they may be mad at her for listening. So....she decided to walk up to them. She started walking. She didn't see the dead tree branch in front of her, and stepped on it, and she was only 50 feet away now! She froze where she was.

ooc: Hey savannah! Welcome to SR! Excuse the stuff Feuer has said, he's a bit down in the dumps, and losing it. Big time.
He watched intently at the chestnut vixen becoming angry with his depression. A sigh escaped his muzzle, creating little foggy puffs in the air. Suddenly, a flash of pain escaped over his chest. Was it the effects of a truely broken heart? Or the realization that it could be fixed? Feuer resisted the urge to sink into the snow and onto his knees, but instead winced slightly. "Life could go on without me, as seasons do, thinking nothing of the bay stallion who died with a broken soul. I do not care what it does with me-I've been though my times. But all I ever wanted was love. The love of a foal prancing around my feet, the love of the sun caressing my coat. Instead, I got the love of an amazing mare, who cut me down. Can you answer this, mare? Would it hurt more to die without love or with the false love of another?" The wind ruffled up his thick winter coat, also pushing a new sound into his auds. A head turned towards the noise, and found a...
Mare. C.rap.
This was the last thing he wanted or needed. He bent his head down, shaking in disbelief, an ugly smile creeping to his maw. Feuer called out to the mare, insanity reaching the final barrier, reading itself to leap over it. "And what do you want, mare? A stallion to fall in love with, to live in a land with? Well, let me warn you, love is a stupid fairytale, told to little foals at bedtime. Love is the dumbest thing in the world, all it does is wreck your inner self. A pittiful excuse for those who are idiotic enough to believe it." He follwed the spiel by a fit of manic laugher, the cry if the truely insane.

Firedancer deflated slightly. He seemed intent on wallowing. Then again, most depressed equines were. She raised her head, and gave him a withering stare. "Love which is false is not love. If she didn't love you, like you adored her, then she wasn't worth it. So stop this pining," she said stoutly, with all the subtlety of a dump truck. Her ears flicked upwards when she heard the stranger, and the smoldering eyes turned her way. "Excuse him," she said coldly, "He's under the impression that he's going to insane for lack of love. Stop being pathetic!" The last bit was directed at the stallion, who was in serious need of a reality check.

Lleyni listened first to the stallion. He seemed depressed, but why or from what, that was what Lleyni wondered. The cherry bay stallion had turned his attention to her, talking about love. What he said made her confused. Her mother had seemed to be in love with her father; after all, wasn't that why she went with him? Perhaps not, but Lleyni would never know. Being the curious mare she was, Lleyni asked the stallion "Why are you so sad, Sir? I do not mean to intrude, but I must know, since I am a curious creature."The mare that had been talking (and arguing) with the stallion told Lleyni to excuse the stallion for his.......almost insane......rambling, Lleyni would call it. Lleyni told the mare, "Hello. Oh, it's quite all right. Stallions in the...uh....herd I was in before sometimes acted like this. My name is Lleyni. What's yours?"

He shook his head. He needed to getot ofhere. Too much had happened, and now mares were flocking to him. Yes, he just needed to flee from this gawd-awful place, and stay well away from it, forever. And all of the other loving terras. Forever. A snort snort followed, making little puffs of fog in the crisp air. Attention turned to the chestnut mare. "I-I need to go." Feuer moved closer to her, gently nuzzled her and whispered in her aud. "Thankyou..." Now the other stupid mare probably wanted her questions answered. Like h.ell he was going to answer them. And with that, the cherry bay stud had begun to move swiftly through the snow, and far away from the awful terra.
The exit grew near and he sped up. Somehow, he was grateful for what the mare had done with him, and hoped that she would have a better life than his.

Firedancer sighed. "Your welcome, I s'pose," she answered. Hopefully he wasn't running off to jump from some cliff in the middle of nowhere. But she didn't call him back. She had done what she could. It would have to be enough. With an irritated twitch of her ears, she turned to the stranger mare. "Allow me to introduce myself, Lleyni. I am Firedancer. And now that we know each other's names, we could either move on in the conversation, or just plain leave. Your pick. But he-" she nodded to Feuer, "Is a lost cause, I think. Anti-social at the moment, anyway. Don't know what the problem is, which makes it difficult to help." The mare shrugged helplessly.
